Anything is possible, but is it practical? I guess that’s somewhat as subjective as the trade offs are and usage may change.
I am going to put batteries in a wrap around U shape bench at one end of habitat. Water tank and filtration under there too. I may have secondary water under/outside...
Swing out and pin someway Or Even Swing up with Hydraulic assist and pin out of the way for recovery without removing. There are always compromises. Eh?
Sacrificing 10 Deg of departure angle really is not going to be a problem I don't think... There is a video of Endless Adventure romping his truck on an impossible to climb hill without winch.... I am not sure I am going on much trails like this where the truck can't get up it in low gear...
Might be easier to engineer beefy jack stands.
But I thought this way a guy could pour sonotube to the height he needed to create a resting pad in between habitat flat bed swaps.
Could make a nice guest suite too in between excursions.
Saw this video of RVGlobeTrekker navigating some deep holes and was observing the tire mounted on top.
Also was inspecting torsion on the sub frame, the compactness of the habitat. Gotta say I was quite impressed. Now this is not to say that the tire on top isn't a ticking timebomb, but thought...
I was considering utilizing the suspension compression hydraulic circuit to make my truck kneel ( install a second set on the rear) so that I could hook up stilts to the habitat and drive out from under it.. hook up to a flatbed and then raise truck (unkneel).. but I think I may be too ambitious...
Question on the hydraulics:
I use my switches and air pump for cab lift and the cab falters about 1/3-1/2 way up. I take over with the hand pump and it seems to falter after a bit too, sometimes will not elevate the cab all the way with hand pump. So tonight I removed the spare tire so I can...
All good points, definitely things to consider. I know that the lower the center of gravity the better. I wonder if something could be devised under the frame? I have a pretty good void above the rearend diff axle. Have to measure and see.
My plan was to build an interior skeleton/frame inside the cabin wall to wall and fit out for some more vertical storage of tools etc in padded pelican cases. Perhaps interior fridge to supplement the cabin fridge. This frame would connect to the floor and the frame the cab sits on. This...
I was thinking about relocating the tire to the top and building a rack for overhead stuff. Think this would add about 800#ish.... I wonder would this strain anything?
