Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Nope, I want to say the M35 series MC's had some internal check valve in them. I want to also say the mounting holes may be different and wouldn't be a direct bolt up. Likely the same for the 5 ton units. I was going to have my MC sleeved for $120.

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

I've crunched the numbers before and I recall the GMC transfer being good for over 30,000 ft lbs of input torque. It sees around 34,000 with the Hydramatic when shifted into low reverse. Beefy indeed. Montanatower, if your making an offroad wrecker chances are your keeping 6x6 capability...

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

I'll say a prayer tonight for "that section 8 guy" to get his 5.9 GMC project going. I want too see it happen as much as you do, the 5.9's are the best diesel engine ever made.

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Sounds like you've decided to keep chugging away. I'm glad i've stuck it out. :D The BIGGEST thing to remember with this work is think about what you WANT and STICK to it. I spent a year with the M211 gutless because I couldn't decide if I wanted to rebuild the torn apart 455 I had in it or go...

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Larger tires do help mileage, especially when going from the hard bias ply tires to modern radials. But remember, most deuce owners are going from 40" 9.00's to the 46" michelins. That's quite a jump in size. If I recall your 11.00's are already 43". Super singles are also $300+ each (around...

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Well buddy I don't want to pour salt into your wound but your numbers are correct. I do not remember which year cummins you are running but the early B series 5.9's will all hit peak power/economy at 1600 to 1700rpm which is going to put you between 45-50mph for best power through the gears and...

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Yes, you will want that top dog bone to keep the axle housing as secure to the chassis as possible. I will take a look at my truck tomorrow and get back with you on a possible solution. If the top dog bone frame mount is riveted on it would be a very simple process of removing the rivets and...

Hahaha! You sound as excited as I was with my 6.2 installation. It's funny how when you finally plop it in there how well it fits up isn't it? Gunfreak is totally jealous. I agree the extra mounts are a great idea. Good job, she's coming right along!

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

I like the idea of a cradle. I believe another term of this setup is a front motor plate. You can buy cut to fit motor plates from Summit, Jegs, Speedway, etc but they are a bit overpriced IMO. Here is what I would do after getting your powerplant mocked into place with wood blocks under the...

The top of the spring packs have rubber cone bumper pads on them that will contact the bottom of the frame. Should tell you just how much the front axle can articulate.

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Motor mounts are really easy. I was apprehensive at first. The trick it getting everything into place and finding a secure, long term way of keeping it there while you take your time making the mounts. When I put the 6.2 in I used a bunch of wood under the oil pan to support things. Then I...

You going to scrub the engine and re-paint it before you stick it in there? Castrol super clean is the better version of purple power which is sort of a Castrol knock off. I put it in a pump spray bottle used for weed killer. Stuff is so powerful there's virtually no scrubbing required.

Love it, you have some easy work ahead of you with no bed on. I got tired of playing twister under mine so I just ripped out all the driveshafts. When your 6' and 185lbs it makes working under the vehicle a joy. Still the occasional "motherfudger!!!" when I bang my big head. I had to cut...

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

Don't ask me why, but GMC used 6 huge 5/8 hot rivets on each GMC motor mount to frame bracket. And the bottom 4 are between the frame and leaf springs so getting to them would be really hard. Take a look at my thread and you can see the mounts I built. They sort of "step forward" to reach the...

Ya have to shut yer pie hole or your going to make me want to get a 5.9 equipped vehicle. They really are one of the best motors ever made. I refuse to give out anymore of my "free" information. It will cost you pictures. :-P

Are you going to do any sand blasting or cleaning while the guts are out?

    A. This is your opinion and does not add anything useful to the OP's thread. B. It is his truck and he may do what he wishes with it. Goes for us all. C. Lay back and have a cold one
