Hey Bigred350, did your M985 go through a reset/rebuild program in 2001? Also, is it an '87 model year? I would also be interested in the VIN as your rig looks like mine. I am curious as to how close the VINs may be. Here is mine after a WD40 application. And before- Gunzy

There are a lot of opinions on trans fluid. I talked to a buddy of mine who spent years in the trans business. He suggested I stay with the 15w40 as that was what the trans started life with and it handles the temps better, so I stayed with it. As far as eng and trans temps, I don't trust those...- Gunzy

TM says 30 quarts with filter change, but my M985 took a few more than that. So start with 30 and check the level after a brief run and top as needed. You will enjoy the beast, I know I do mine.
