Maybe, but just how much thread engagement are you getting from those thimbles? And with using the thimble like that, you could have just ran the thimble and skipped the plate. Your plate adds strength for the thimble, but doesn't solve the main issue that with the double layer rims, you don't...

Ok, here are a couple photos. You can see that the threads on the nut do not come all the way out to the front face. But all the threads on the nut are engaged on the stud.
