This isn't an argument about rivets being good or bad. We all know that rivets can loosen and fail. Even the frame rivets on our trucks are supposed to be inspected periodically. If you have any doubt about the wheel, just weld it.
You don't need to put that much silicone when you pack the bearings. Just be sure to have the keyway clean and pack it up good with gear oil specific silicone before and after the seal install.
That's right. I don't get on here to be mean to anyone, much less you David. I thought we were friends and all. I'm just trying to steer you in the right direction.
The 3 is not better. It absorbs moisture directly from the air, and there are way too many places for water to accumulate and cause damage on our trucks. The reason the military went over to DOT5 is and always has been clear and simple. Please do not cheap out here. It'll cost you a whole lot...
Man... Haven't you learned yet? Do not use dot3 fluid in this thing, just go get some dot5.
Don't make me eat my words every time I say good job bro... Did you ever check out the new deuce master cylinders that Clintogf sells in the classifieds? You can't go wrong at her price.
About a case of brake parts cleaner per wheel is what you really need for a brake job on our trucks. You might have to cross a border to get it though. Most brake parts cleaner is prohibited for sale in Cali because of the yuppies and treehuggers.
Remember, high heat is a factor in starting and charging as well. You won't find a reasonably priced lift pump that is 12v and works for these trucks either, and you do need the lift pump if you don't want to burn up the hydraulic head.
If you wire that truck to be 12v, I'll drive all the way out there, slap the $hit out of you, and then drive back home. Do it right. These trucks were designed to be 24v for a reason.
