Thanks pma. I look forward to your build.
I posted some field pictures of the trailer over on ExPo. Still have more plans for the trailer but its next task will be hauling some firewood this weekend...
Tarps arrived from mytarp.com. Need to play around with how to rig them but they look good so far. Ended up getting a large tarp to cover the entire trailer :) and smaller ones for just the sides and rear if a quick set up is needed. I plan to make some awning legs that attache directly to...
Mark, your build is an inspiration to many. I plan to cover the top only. I made some awning stakes and plan to use the rack to attach tarps off the sides/rear.
Thank you. I look forward to seeing your build.
Well, counting the stuff I sold/scrapped off the trailer it really only cost me $150.....
The welder was a bit more than $500..... Also had to buy a new grinder that would accept the razor disks I used to make the stakes. I do have a very...
Made a little more progress.
Took 14 cans to paint everything I could reach with a rattle can. Flat black is a very forgiving paint :)
Hopefully I will finish the rack this week. Plan is to make it pretty modular so I can add/swap out side panel. For now, I mostly want it for supporting...
Been a while since my last update. Nothing major just a few things to make it a bit more useful. The "to do" list is still pretty long and progress is slow. Now I am kicking around the idea of putting a torsion axle on it. It will allow me to get some electric brakes and will drop the deck...
900 is pretty steep for brakes. For that money you could have gotten an new axle with electric brakes. For a time I was considering (and still may) replacing my axle with a Dexter 7K 4" drop with electric brakes. I was quoted $550 for the parts.
If I do get a tongue box, I think it will have to be a DIY job like yours because it needs to be thin. I like being able to pivot the trailer completely out of the way of the tailgate while its attached to the truck.
A nice surprise has been how well the trailer pulls with the 2.5" ring. Just...
Thanks Harley, like many before me, your build was used as a template. I still have a pretty long list of things I would like to do but at least it is functional as it sits. Now that I have a welder, I am re-thinking some of my plans.
Once I figure out what to do with all of the take off...
It is rolling !
Wheel spacers arrived.
Seems like everyone was pretty proud of their used tires in my area so I decided to give the Dextero brand a try from Walmart. Picked 225/75/16 for a 29.5" overall tire height. These actually seem like pretty decent tires for $111 each. They are all...
Took another step forward with this project today.....
Also got the hubs back together and am waiting on some 1/4" spacers.
Cleaned and painted the new wheels.
When attempting to dry fit the new wheels, it became apparent that all 8x6.5 lugs/ lug nuts are not equal. The lug nuts...
This project is a good excuse to finally buy a welder. I doubt this will be the last trailer I want to do this work on....
gimpyrobb, you win the creepiest avatar award :)
Haven't done much other than complete the wiring for the lights and remove the entire brake system. Got tired of being quoted $200 for the welding work so I am taking a break to buy a welder and learn to weld. Hope to have this all wrapped up by the end of April
