    Working on the M37

If you have the same harness, it is quite easy to test out of the vehicle as the wires are color coded. Now, if you have a broken connection in the multi-pin light switch connector, it is pretty easy to take apart. First, you must remove it from the light switch. Pull back enough of the...

    Working on the M37

I used another MacGuyver wire to make BOTH stoplights work. Basically, this is a 3-bulb turn-brake/marker/BO marker tail lamp. The way it was wired was for right side BO stop, left side service stop. The way we wired it, both service markers run off the same lead but each brake had its own...

Enjoy the cooler weather, it brought down allergens so I'm a bit under the weather. Still getting up to speed on how this system works. How about we shoot for tomorrow?

Service Bulletin 9-203 may be an issue here. This is the installation of commercial turn signal kit. I need to read more to see if this is the case.

Got it. TM 9-2330-212-20 from the site's resources, Figure 2-61. Looks like the light switch will have to be pulled and the two additional wires from the old wiring harness will have to be swapped into the new one. No biggie, these join the turn signal to the main. I'm going to take...

Now it IS both, although a little cool front has dropped the temperature. I want to trace the brake line pressure switch back to the light switch, then see if circuit 22 is energized. IIRC, there were two added wires to the 3 lever switch which had the newer rubber plugs instead of Douglass...

    Working on the M37

We are neck-deep into the wiring harness replacement with the color-coded Greek replacement. The rear is done and the front it in place, just not fully connected. The light switch is installed, I traced and numbered the colored wires for less confusion. The original wiring harness was in...

There is enough hose length. The split rivets should be easy to install. If the pitch of the holes in the rubber match that on the steel piece remains to be seen. Always with the negative waves...aua

    Working on the M37

Right side is done, the left and fronts need welting/rubber attached, each about 30 minutes. The bolts attaching the outer fender to the bed side need trimming, that takes well over an hour. Minor paint touch ups and the gas tank cap. We have a cup of pre-mixed paint on hand and a half...

16 inch M37 tires are a LOT easier to mount than 20" M35s. By far, I can lift the rim with a single arm and the tire is easily pushed with one hand while the other hand is aligning the valve stem with the hole in the rim. BUT the boot flap on the M37s is harder, especially when it has been...

1.5 x 2 box c-channel is standard but no one seems to sell it in small quantities so using the 101 stakes as raw material looks like the best solution. I'm waiting for the pictures, probably will see them at mkcoen's shop tomorrow.

    Working on the M37

Pictures would be excellent. If the difference is just bolting tabs, that can be easily welded onto the 101 stakes. We were looking for the raw material. Now if the C-channel can be found, we will go with that. Oh, I left the seat braces out on the pallets in the outdoor painting area. I...

    Working on the M37

Ugh! I remembered in addition to the wheels, the spare tire carrier needs stripping. Tomorrow I will wear a dust mask when using the wire wheel. Also, doing it outside during the cooler morning will help. Shooting color (Sinai Gray is a color 2cents) in the afternoon should make this...

    Working on the M37

This was a fun day. We only had doors to sand, that was a bit dirty as there were layers of running, brush-applied paint and a few defects to feather. Sanding is the big work, spraying is downright fun in comparison. Especially when done in air conditioned comfort. Without fumes of...

It is going to be a great painting day. Why? Hurricane/tropical storm Isaac is far enough to the east it is wringing the humidity out of the air. Meaning less sweat and faster drying times on the paint. Yes, sweat was a problem a few times.

That is the 15th. Should be easy to get it back together in two weeks plus three days.

    Working on the M37

Rather have that crusty feeling (as long as it isn't CARC, done that once) than the smell of steel after grinding. Rust is the worst. That hand cleaner works well on fresh paint. That longer black hose doesn't flow well at all. It won't run the long sander and the DA just barely operates...

    Working on the M37

Just to illustrate how much work went into this restoration, I purchased two pounds of welding filler rod, 1/16" diameter (ER70S2) and two pounds of 0.023" wire (ER70S6). I have less than a dozen left out of the 64 filler rods. And used a good bit of the fine wire too. Ok, some of that went...

    Working on the M37

Duh! The corrugations would never match if flipped . I still need to source the snorkel elbow, cut the hole in the flange and weld up. I don't remember the diameter..
