I dont know if they have anything like the REB kit that removes and replaces the sprag. But on the 809 5tons you can put a valve in the airline to the transmission and basically "shut off" the sprag. By shutting off the air it lets the sprag clutch remain in neutral.
It will work fine but wont gain you anything but maybe the steering may be a little easier. With the freewheeling hubs the t-case will think the fronts are not turning and inturn engage and spin the driveshaft, spinning the diff. and basically gaining you nothing in the end.
Personally, I would atleast drain it and see what parts come out. Given what you described there are probably pieces floating around in there that sooner or later is either going to lock up the t-case or damage the gears. No matter what, something is wrong and need to be looked at.
