Friend is looking at the auctions for an 802, and there are several coming up soon. He asked about blow-by as the units tested all have what appears to be a lot of blow-by. So tonight I fired mine up and it's definitely blowing oil mist out the oil fill port and making a mess. Similar to...

Five and a half hours of run time added to the meter. Best investment ever!

15 degrees and the power went out... Two and a half hours so far on the generator. This thing rocks. We're the only house in the hood with lights. Everything inside here is normal, and the gen is at about 55%.

I finally got around to giving this generator a more thorough test. With most of the interior lights turned on, the heat ( is gas so distro only), the fridge running, and the dryer (single phase) it's running at around 30-35%. With the oven (two 120 legs) it goes to 80%. So my concern now...

Yes, thanks! If I had thought about it more I would have realized left-to-right wouldn't work for the reason you mentioned. The old dryer circuit (the ones taped to OFF in the picture) are together, so that should have clued me in. EDIT to add: the surge protector too.

General question then; The generator inputs two legs to the two top left breakers to power the house. So how do those two inputs become two 120v legs or phases (or whatever it's called)? Is the panel set up so that every other breaker (up - down) in the panel is getting a different leg? So...

UPDATE: The electrician finally squeezed me in and got the generator connected to the house. My underground conduit came out in the right spot next to the house by good fortune. The generator lock-out wasn't what I was expecting at all - I thought it would be a black box of some sort (having...

This is it, at least for now. Two pads under each block. One corner of the slab is slightly low, so the opposite corner wasn't carrying much weight. Shimmed it up with some hardiplank and now it's perfectly level. I may re-attack at some point to try to get it a little lower, or with only...

First rule of troubleshooting is to return to the previous known good condition, so that was this morning's effort. I jacked it up and put it back on the wood blocks, the configuration it was in out on the driveway. This produced almost no vibration whatsoever. Wife was as shocked as I was...

When it was in the driveway on wood blocks it ran quietly and didn't vibrate the house. Now, on the side of the house it vibrates quite a bit. It's certainly tolerable, especially if it's 30 degrees and the power goes out. So this is my list of possibilities for the vibration, probably not...

It's kind of in the only place it can be. The ground is very sandy soil, and I brought in a half yard of 1" minus gravel and tamped it down before pouring the concrete. I'm hoping when the rain comes and saturates the ground it might dampen it some. Wife isn't complaining, just not thrilled...

Genset is on the pad and when bolted down vibrates the entire earth around my house, which includes my house. The glasses in the kitchen cupboard ring like bells. Took RCamacho's advise and put some Diversitech air compressor pads underneath and that took some of it out, but the house still...

Well, the generator isn't doing me any good in the driveway. Poured a slab and then started to noodle how I was going to move a 850# generator from the driveway to the slab on the side of the house. I had an epiphany; if I could get the gen back on a smaller narrower trailer it could push it...

So several months ago I threw down a low bid on a "patient lift" - one of those things that lifts non-ambulatory people up so you can set them down somewhere else. I figured it would be a good tool for hefting the 400 amp alternator out of the M1165, being it's 24V and almost no effort is...

Weatherstrip on order. Thanks to LightintheDark I have the missing knob and the MOV. Installed both this afternoon. Went down the rabbit hole of trying to find three LED panel light bulbs, gave up. Not really worth it. That should be the end of the driveway maintenance items, the rest I...

Second battery installed. Starts easily on its own now. The $109 walmart batteries are only 440CCA but seem more than sufficient. I still need to run down about 40 bolts/washers/nuts for the panels. Took off the top and checked wiring for any chafing, one had some very minor rubbing and...

Did some driving around town to find a couple batteries- ended up at walmart for $109 each. Not the best ones on the shelf, but (1) they had some on the shelf and (2) the next one up was $159. Dug through my hoard of old aircraft stuff and found four matching wing nuts with lockwire holes...

Well, apparently nobody makes a tray for a Group 51R battery, except Honda. I rode the V9 Guzzi out to the wrecking yard to scout out what they have, planning to return with tools if they have what I need. I learned Honda owners cannot drive - the yard had dozens of wrecked Hondas. Bonus -...

The -24P discusses some battery trays and hold-downs. Anyone have a source or suitable substitute? I'm not trying to make a historically accurate show generator, so exact parts are not necessary.
