    Just get some cupro-nickel line and run it where you want it. The rest of the vehicle will rust out before that stuff will. Much better than stainless steel. Very easy to work, too.

    Yes, no doubt metal is best, but for a quick fix, rubber works just fine. For myself, I would replace the whole line before I'd mess with splicing in with unions.

    Transmissions generate some high pressures internally, but the cooler lines don't carry any high pressure. Rubber hose (rated for trans fluid, of course) and some clamps will make a perfectly good, permanent repair. No unions needed. Keep it simple.

    That's not original, but it's not a problem. Transmission rated hose will last a long time. Do yourself a favor and get new clamps while you're at it.

    It could have been on the edge and the shifting weight put it over the edge. What kind of shape are your mounts in?
