    Alternate Alternator Selection

Update. I'm posting here on the alt driven tach signal bc I've no clue where else to post. There's a lot of various tach threads. I hooked up this IssPro tach, using pulses per rev. Works except the PPR numbers didn't calibrate at all. Assuming my idle/fast idle is 700/1350, something is...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Finally wired up my 12v victrons. I already had 2 of these 24/12-20 units with Bluetooth, for another project. I couldn't really find a good breaker to hook them to so I just added a 30a fuse off of X3 and paralleled the 2 outputs onto X2. The Bluetooth setup allows for monitoring and changing...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

I got tired of typing my dreams and just started it up. The "charging system" light works as expected. Tested it firsts and it's good. See pics of diode assembly. I appreciate you guys making this happen🫡🇺🇸 Alt produced 99amps with the AIH on and batteries a little drained(only 2). Then with...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Yes I like that arrangement too. The separate 12v battery isn't really necessary with 2 victrons powering up the 12v side. I'm always thinking about what happens when stuff breaks, while driving. The wires are already there and it's no extra cost to leave the battery there.

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Yeah I'm not deleting anything that makes my life easier. I've used that front gladhand a few dozen times already just to release the brakes. Pretty convenient! Plus I have the gladhand adapter and hose for airing up tires manually (if needed) since my CTIS is out of order. I have 2 sets of...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Yes on the 12v battery. It seems prudent to have backup in case there's a failure of the victrons while driving. No, I removed the relay so there's no aux contacts to run the dash light. I was just thinking there could be a test connection for the switch outside by connecting 1008 to 1855...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

The final yard. Before powering on, I edited Page 3 of the A1 electrical Schematic for what I'm doing. Too many things for me at my age to keep track of without a drawing plus I'm supposed to be doing drawing as an EE anyway! So I'm taking my own advice. Where's the drawing? Here's a draft...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

So basically a diode ahead of the i terminal pointing towards the alt, so if the i terminal is not lowest voltage, no current will flow....

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Ok I read that backwards. I keep getting turned around on that diagram. They don't use line loops when they cross lines so it's challenging my reading glasses. I literally thought it was the reverse. Hence the need for discipline specific review! I appreciate that. So the new alt says it...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Looks like load side control from Page 6, with 24v coming from lbcd when it's tripped.

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Thanks. Yeah yours is pretty nice. You have way more power draw potential than mine as well with the user loads. So that's a greater requirement that justifies the cost. Every application is different so it's nice to know I can still go back to the j180 mount style with that alt you have or...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

I'll do what Ronmar mentioned above. The I-terminal can run a relay and that could trigger the existing charge system dash light. It'll have to be a reverse acting or Normally closed contact on the relay , I think since the dash light is an "alert". the alt issues the ignition light signal but...

Yessir, -- Delco 28SI 24V 110 Amp 8600469 8600423 Quad Mount. Those are the aftermarket # and then the OE #. See model number sheet attached from delco. The ones I researched that have the name "Delco-Remy" on the back plastic cover are OE and typically $450+. The aftermarket knock offs are...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Here's the literature from delco. This has remote sense so is supposed to maintain 14v (28v) at battery per the info.https://www.delcoremy.com/getmedia/90520e29-6966-4656-a04e-9053e59b5929/Delco-28SI-Single-Page-Brochure-12-14.pdf.aspx

    Alternate Alternator Selection

I figured I'd post the progress here instead of the starter thread, since others may look here first for alt options. I got the delco-Remy aftermarket alt today and mocked it up with some 3/8 studs. I don't have any 4" long 3/8 bolts but I'll get them tomorrow. See photos. The unit fits...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

After rummaging in my shop, Looks like I forgot that I bought a 260 after realizing the 300 would be impossible. Is the 260 a manageable retrofit? This one is definitely used so I'll have to test it but the seller said it came from Northern Pacific Repair in WA.

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Funny I bought one of these N1313-6 300A's last February off eBay for $500 + $130 shipping from FL. Seemed like maybe a good deal at the time as I was considering an upgrade. Looks brand shiny new. Date on reg says 2018. It was a purchase on spec. When it arrived I took it out and pondered my...
