    MEP 804A questions

I was going to start another thread with this post but since this one has been revived I will put it here. First, thanks for the responses and the help. Our 804B has been working great for our application. The radiator developed a small leak at the seam where the tank is soldered to the core...

    MEP 804A questions

FYI for anybody interested-We have about 40 hrs. on the machine now. 464-465 volts, 5 hp 3 phase pump draws 7.8 amps. Load meter shows 40%. Fuel consumption is around 0.7 gallons/hour maybe a little less. Generator is lightly loaded, you can barely notice when the pump starts. Elevation is...

    MEP 804A questions

Tweaked the voltage range adjustment maybe 1/8 turn. Now the voltage can be adjusted to at least 480. Hooked up an old 5hp motor with no load on it, everything seems fine. Will try to pull it up to the well tomorrow. By the way, as mac/mc warned, the single phase voltages are not usable...

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks mac/mc. This well is in a remote location and is the only need for power. I don't have to worry about burning anything else up with L-N voltage. After reading the motor manual again, it says that voltage at the motor needs to be within 10% of nameplate voltage at the pump. Even...

    MEP 804A questions

Finally found a low-time 804b. Runs fine, makes power. I am still trying to figure out the voltage output. I have moved the terminal board to the 208-416 setting. With the voltage knob turned all the way up, I am getting 409 volts. From what I have learned here and from GMG specs for this...

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks guys. I think I am going to have to get one to work with and figure it out. If it won't make voltage to run the pump without problems, I will have to find a transformer. I know an electric motor shop guy who says he can help me with that if I need to go that way. Mike

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks LITD. The pump is a Franklin Sandhandler pump, 5HP, 3.7KW, 460V 3 phase, 10 GPM. Franklin Electric manual says it should draw 8A full load, 8.9A max. SF is 1.15. Locked rotor amps is 53.7. I think it was running at around 7.8-8.0 amps and 465-475 volts but I can't remember the exact...

    MEP 804A questions

One more question- If I adjust the voltage up to 460 or even 480 volts on an 804a/b instead of using other output voltages with a transformer will it cause any problems with the generator running it that way long-term? I think my pump motor is going to need at least 460V. I haven't found...

    MEP 804A questions

Robert, these motors are listed as 460V. There are other voltage options but you have to change the motor out to change voltage. And, as you said, lower voltage means higher amperage so you would need bigger cable and you would lose the advantage of the high voltage 3 phase. I need to talk...

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks mac/mc. Will study-up some more before I pull the trigger on a purchase. I know just enough about electricity and generators to get in trouble. I didn't know 803/003's could be configured to make 3 phase. If the smaller machines will work they may be a better choice for us than...

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks Robert. I will look at 804b's too. Just had to replace a turbo in a Ram Cummins 6.7. That made me wonder if a turbo isn't just another expensive precision part to go bad. But I have had good experience with other Yanmar engines. Mike

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks to all of you for the help. I have found the links to the manuals and have the 643-10. Will try to get the others if it looks like I can buy a generator. I thought from the pictures of the placards on the machines that they should be able to start and run our pump. I also know...

    MEP 804A questions

Thanks for the reply Light in the Dark. I should have mentioned in my questions that this is 460 volt Franklin Electric motor. Their manual says 8.0 amps full load, max. 8.9 amps. Locked rotor amps which should be the max startup is 53.7 amps. The little Miller generator was a 10 kw and it...

    MEP 804A questions

New user with some questions on generators. First, these forums are an awesome resource. Thanks for all the good information posted here. I need a generator to run a 5 hp, 3 phase deep well submersible pump. We pump this well 2000 to 2500 hours a year to water livestock. Most of the posts I...
