I am a little confused, if it does not use any power after it opens how does it know to close when the power is removed?, also the run power is present during cranking otherwise the engine would not start.
You will need a 5 point security torx drive bit to remove the screws, I usually set the bit in the screws and tap on them with a small hammer to help break the screws loose.
