My M880 Thread (pics plus bonus M882)

Where are our pictures? Here are some pics of the Wranglers I mentioned earlier in this thread. These are mounted on 2000 Chevy wheels which will not fit the 880 due the center hole not being large enough. These are 265-75-16 next to stock Wrangler 9.5-16.5.

I've been trying to figure out this tire issue for months now. I have decided to go 16". Going US owned on the tires leaves me with the Goodyear and Cooper. I can't decide between the Goodyear Wrangler Authority from Walmart and Cooper ATP or ST MAXX from Discount. The GYs are $832 out the...

Wow did that truck turn out nice! Hard to believe how fast you turned that truck from GSA forgotten turn-in to parade ready. Tell us which tires ended up on it.

It looks like the factory color (whatever that was) before uncle slathered it with MERDC and later NATO 3 color.

The 880's came with the typical rubber mat with jute backing. As you can imagine, military use coupled with 70's build quality resulted in the mat getting soaked and resulting ugly floorboard rust even during the military service. The mats were ripped out and replaced with nothing.

Tires are for sure an issue. The only 16.5" new name-brand tire available that I can find is the Firestone Transforce HT. The HMMWV Wrangler 36" MTs are too old.

Last couple of GSA ex-VFD trucks I have bought, I have managed to track down what VFD they came from and made contact with the dept. Lots of war stories. "That truck single-handedly extinguished a 100 acre wildfire . . ." Part of the truck's provenance I guess.

My guess it had a slide in brush truck tank unit with a small gas engine. The bed power was to crank the engine. The front sprayers would be to suppress on the fly. Looks like yours was a base 880? Didn't get bo lights or 24 volt kits.

I have seen dozens of M880 series and never has one had a slave receptacle. This includes trucks at DRMO in the 90's.

The power terminal on the street side is the starter relay. The radio power buss is mounted on the curb side inner fender. Heavy cables routed to the bed for the radio shelf.

The 60 amp alternator set up involves the usual military alternator in addition to the Mopar one. There will be a double groove pulley added to the crankshaft. Also a battery tray curbside for the 6TLs. Often all this is removed by the VFDs that used them. With gas prices coming down...
