I'm at work. Glad I used my headphones to watch it. The fowl language blaring from my desk would have attracted some unwanted attention from my supervisor!!!
I'm sorry. My post didn't address the root cause. I think the thick battery cable that attaches to the starter has come loose, and is the reason you saw sparks. Over time, that sucker loosens up, and can cause intermittent starting issues - weak starts or no starts.
A couple more gems of...
Remove the starter. It's a big pain, but doable with the passenger side jacked up like Rich suggested. I've replaced the starter on my M1009 so many times I got it down to 30 minutes including finding the right sized wrenches and sockets. I never pulled the driveshaft. Anyway, you'll have a...
I have one suggestion for you. Organize your parts into boxes of projects. Clearly label one box WINCH, another TURBO, another HEATERS, another ARCTIC KIT, another TRANSMISSION, another SHOCKS etc. If you don't have enough boxes, buy plastic bins from the dollar store or Wally World will work to...
jpg - Time and time again, you have proven that you know how to read TMs, follow directions, and improvise solutions to complex problems. All of those skills help in the kitchen. A recipe is a framework. The ingredients are your 'consumables'. The pots, pans, spatulas, and spoons are your tools...
jog - One thing I learned when manually downshifting my M1009 is that I pull my foot completely off of the throttle, wait for the RPM's to drop, and then move to second gear. That technique prevents the hard SLAM you feel when you downshift under power. Try it this way and see what you think. :-)
She's adorable and intelligent, and you're screwed. ;-) It looks like she's getting hooked on the old OD Iron at the perfect age!! :goodjob: Please continue to nurture her love for military vehicles. As she grows, teach her how to maintain that beast. We need to pass our addiction on to the...
I got an idea for you, jpg. Keep this beast for yourself. Buy a second ambulance. Use all of your newly acquired skills to custom build an ambulance just for her. :-)
I'm glad you highlight the problem of painting lug nuts and studs. I wire brush and tape all studs and threads when I paint hubs and nuts so no paint gets anywhere near the threads.
I just had a crazy thought, jpg. Is there any way that you could install a belt tensioner to your 6.2L to gently press the belt inward and away from your lower radiator hose? Look for a belt tensioner that has a bracket that you can mount to the engine. I'm not sure what would work because I...
I will never buy another Dayco belt. They stretch way too much. Order Gates belts from Amazon (if you can wait 2 days). Gates belts on Amazon are about half the price of the local auto parts stores. If you need the belt right away, go to O'Reilly's or Car Quest. FWIW Advance recently bought Car...
jpg - I just got off the phone with AAA. I have Plus coverage which includes 100 miles of free towing. I asked them if there were any modifications I would need to make to my coverage level if I purchased either a Ford F350 Quad Cab 8' Bed DRW or comparable GM 3500 series truck. The agent put me...
I'm thankful you are so forward thinking.
Are you sure that AAA won't touch the M1010 for a tire change? I have used AAA many times to have my M1009 loaded on a flatbed and hauled to my mechanic. I've never made a service call. The M1010 is a pickup; I don't see why they'd have a problem with...
jpg - I have 2 tubes of NO OX. I use it on the battery terminals of all of my vehicles. It's great stuff! :-D One tube will last the average MV owner nearly a lifetime. You don't need much of that stuff on the posts and the terminal threads.
