That is a good point. It might be interesting to see how long it takes for the oil to drain back out of the filters, hot and cold. Looking at the diagrams, it would have two paths:
1. to drain backwards through the oil pump and this should be rather slow if the pump is good.
2. to drain...
I''ll have to find a 100-120PSI spare oil guage. There are some water and air guages at the hardware store but i don't really trust them with oil for some reason.
The opening is a 3/8 NPT, the square head requires a 7/16" square socket (Thanks Bjorn). I wonder how much pressure there would be required to at least crack the "15PSI minimum" piston cooling valve. I have my doubts that once this opens, the pressure would rise much higher with a small electric...
Hey Bjorn, so you sure the little port there is the pre-filter? That wotld make it far easier than trying to reach the 1/2" plug. Volume would be low but I am patient..
Does anyone have a spare oil pan plug from the main sump? I want to experiment, and will have to drill and tap one for a fitting to be a source of oil for a prelube. I want to take from the pan and give to the 1/2" pipe fitting, if possible. This is unless someone has a lazier source of oil to...
Here is the plug Devilman96 suggested. looks like there might be enough room to do the job there especially if a reducing plug such as on the master cylinder was used with a smaller size 90-degree elbow (room to swing the eblow). the spotty yellowish lighting is my targeting lamp for taking...
TM 9-2320-361-34 section 3-13 shows the oil pressure regulator. It is after the filters, but is accessible from the side ofthe engine just as the oil pressure sender is. In the bottom of it is a removable threaded plug. a possible point to inject prelube, but unfortunately not before the...
Has anyone ever removed the oil pressure sender from an engine and noticed if the passage is large enough to support pre-oiling through the 'hole'? Granted it won't fill up the filters much but it would oil up the engine.
Hmm. I wonder how easy it is to get to either end of the main oil gallery, and if there is a hex-type plug there to unscrew. That would be a place to plumb a preluber into. I note the oil pressure sender is also mounted suspiciously near the main gallery. How about there?
A couple things come to mind. Since fuel is less viscous than (cold) oil, the fuel pump will be under quite a load pumping lube oil. A robust pump should be selected to prevent burning out the motor or breaking a plastic gear? Maybe OK for intermittent duty, but the flow rate would be much lower...
Re: RE: Check valve for oil filters?
Great suggestion! Hot rodders have been doing that for years to protect their $$$ engines from dry starts. It's a great idea. How to get the oil? maybe through the drain sump plug, then through a filter to a gear pump and to the engine?
