It allows the tailgate to open over the towing pintle on the back of the trailer. A field piece could be towed behind the ammo trailer. We picked up a couple of M332's in Gurnsey Wyoming and later encountered someone stationed there who told stories about his driving a deuce towing a string of 5...

I don't know what usually towed it. I planned on towing it with my M220. The fire control system description just refers briefly to "additional" equipment such as a generator without naming which one nor does it mention which vehicles were to be used to tow the equipment. My research going into...

Not quite the story. The assembly had three trailers in total. One trailer which looks almost identical on the outside had the radar consoles and electronic cabinets with a small rotating antenna on the roof. Another trailer had a larger antenna that was dismounted from the trailer and erected...

Lost out on this one I tried to buy this one, but just could not win the bid. ~~ M244 from the M33 fire control assembly. Now if I could just figure out how to edit and rotate images.

Good answer. ~~ Sometimes the M116 gets a box put on it and it appears as a M101, but still carries the M116 designation. We have one of those. I bid on a 3/4 ton generator trailer which was also designated as an M116. ~~ The Canadian M101 is very similar to the M416 quarter ton. Interesting how...

The M989a1 will tow behind some other stuff, but the wagon style with a short bar can put it pretty close to the tow vehicle on tight turns (as we have discovered.) It was designed to go behind the HEMTT and anything else seems marginal. We have towed it with an M818 and an M817 so far and I...

Make that an M101 A 2. The plain old M101 has 5 hole wheels with 9.00x16 tires and no surge brakes and only a single tail light. The M101a1 has the newer style dual tail lights, but remains as 5 hole 9.00x16 wheels and tires. The M101a2 has 8 hole wheels and smaller tires that better match the...

I have towed an M105a2 containing a "mule" with a M1009. Not the best combination, but we did get the mule delivered some 20 miles away and then the M105 returned to its owner after another 20 miles. The M105 has air brakes so the net effect was much the same as towing an early M101 with out...

Safety note received. ~~ This model of trailer has a short steerable tow bar that includes a drop stop which keeps the bar from hitting the ground. The safety chains are too short to cross under the tow bar. In fact, the connection pig tail is short as are the air hoses. The air hoses are just...

We put it to use the next day after we got it home, hauling a 30KW generator and some compressors and a welder we are adding to our collection of military stuff. We think besides hauling our stuff, we will use it as a parade trailer. We have some waiting room seats that are tied together back to...

Like Nick, my guess is that you have a "plain" M101. These would have been surpluss some time in the early to mid 60's most likely and were 50's vintage trailers. My guess is based on what looks like bolt holes for the early brake handles. The M101 series is really a tough little trailer. I have...

After studying your posted pics and comparing them to my trailer, I believe you have a "plain" M101. The wheels are the same as the Dodge's from that era. I am restoring a 1948 Dodge Power Wagon, the 101 I have is a 1952....Same brakes, same wheels, same hubs, etc. The data plate on mine says...

The answer to the white paint is because that's the way it came from the Army. We have had the M220 just a little over two years now and we got it from GL out of Barstow CA. It got there from Yuma Proving Grounds about a year earlier. I don't know when exactly it was painted white, but it was...

I own a plain old M101. The clue is the tail light set up. The tail lights match the 50's vintage set up which had only one service stop lamp on the left rear. The right side is a black out marker light and black out stop light.
