First MEP 803A, fix up help

Glad it helps! You need to carefully drilled out the rivets. If you go too far in you may hit the circuit board. I believe they were 1/8" hole rivets if I remember correctly. Next, I had to desolder the screw posts so I could get the rivet remnants out from under the circuit board. If you...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Hi all. Been busy with stuff lately, but wanted to put an update. I ordered some DeoxIt and removed and cleaned the S8 switch. I found soot on the contacts that was making 13 to 14 have a high resistance which is what I believe was causing the overload under small loads. The voltages on L1 and...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

I am working on cleaning S8 and doing a radiator flush, but I am confused about the coolant type to use. The parts sticky just says to use a heavy duty coolant. Napa has a matching green coolant, but it is listed as just conventional. Their heavy duty truck coolant is pink and has SCA precharged...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Yes, I understand L3-L1 is both loads. So will the L3-L0 read the same, or half the load? I don't think mine affected the PRC, can't remember just now. Anyway, my 803a was reading at like 105% on the PRC when I was pulling about 37A on L1 and 39A on L3 with heaters. (That is wrong, correct? It...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Well, I just ran out and disconnected 1, 2, and 3 on K8. The resistors now read 7.6-7.7 ohms. So I guess they are ok. But I am back to trying to figure out where this phantom power draw is..? It only does it with a load. Unloaded it reads 0. With a load, it seems to be reading about 2x the...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

I followed the TM on testing the resistors. It did not say anything about needing to take them out of circuit. Are you sure about that? If so, I can try that later. S8 is set to 120/240 1 Phase S6 was set to the 240V ( 1 Phase L1-L3 L3) The loads were connected to L1, L3, N/L0, and G When I...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Another update and more questions... Well, I got an oil gauge mod installed. It showed 42psi at startup, and it dipped to 34psi after warming up under light load (about 12A L1/12A L3). It is nice to be able to look at the analog oil for confirmation. The panel seems to be around the same...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

I already have everything re-soldered, but I can see the part numbers. Looks like a 5K pot and a 100k pot. I would say there are probably part numbers 72XWR5KLFTB and 72XWR100KLF .

Thanks for the replies. I just followed the TM guides on testing the gauges. I haven't worked on these before, so I wanted to post my findings and get a feel if that was normal or not. Sounds like is is Acceptable for these units. I opened up the interrupter and the seal looked good and the...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Just an update for today... I like that analog oil gauge idea. I found the same Marshall one off Amazon and have that coming. Easier than making a temporary setup with a rental tool. I tested the Frequency transducer and it is way out of spec. Instead of 100uA (60Hz) and 200uA (65Hz), it is...

    3. Like I said, someone ran it with the muffler unbolted, so a light layer of soot is everywhere. I could see that perhaps getting in the contacts of S6 or S8. I don't exactly see how you would get the cleaner inside though, it looks pretty sealed up..? Do you just spray the outside and hope it...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

    2. So if the gauge is bad, no way to fix except replace? Can you even find them? 3. Ok, I guess I should check wires too for anything loose. I gave it a quick check over before but didn't notice anything. The big Voltage Selector switch was sticky when I tried to turn it off 208V. What would...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Ok, thanks. Looks like I need to do some testing on the oil and coolant senders. Sounds like a coolant flush and new thermostat too.

First MEP 803A, fix up help

    1. Ok, I am reading about that test I believe and need to try it. 2. The PRC goes to 120%, so 100% is 52A and 120% would be like 62A or 15KW? Do you just adjust the gauge dial or is there some kind of related part that is bad? 3. I am measuring the actual output voltages on L1 and L3...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

I don't have any way to put a calibrated load on it, but as I mentioned, at like 105% it was reading about 37A on L1 and 39A on L3 with my good clamp meter. Should I just adjust the dial based on the amps..? Or is there a power factor or something affecting it that derates it? I haven't tried...

First MEP 803A, fix up help

Hello all, I have been reading this forum for a while but just registered recently. I recently bought a 803A from GovPlanet out at Lytle, TX a month ago and have been working on it to set it up as a backup gen. This is how it looked when I picked it up: The batteries tested bad and the...
