Because of the way the factory sides were made, the bed floor is wider than the tail board of the wrecker bed. I will slice that extra material off so that I can flush up the bedside. You also get an idea how much bedside will be lopped off. The top rail will be modified to decend at a 45 degree...
The bed is wider for sure. The inner fender has been removed. I'm not sure if I will use them or cut the lip off a deuce fender. Much fab work to do before the effect of the bed will be visible. I'd like to keep the sides as narrow as possible but still enough to just cover the tires.
No, I'm going to trim the outside edge of both sides. Saves me from having to remount all the wrecker equipment and subframe. The rain never did subside yesterday to get the pics. I won't be home in the daylight hours until Wed now. Work is such an inconvenience.
I'll get a couple of pics in the AM of different angles. Narrowing the bed floor just a bit saves hours of fabwork. Also, from the front, the bed appears too wide.
Mocking up bedsides. The back will need to be chopped off and reworked. the side of the bed floor will have to be narrowed 2" per side. I think it will look good when complete.
For some reason, that doesn't appeal to me. I'd put it in the class of stacks on pickups, fat manboobs and chrome on MV's but it might be right for you. LOL
Interesting question that can now be answered with certainty. My research showed that you can obtain the extra 4" of wheelbase simply by flipping the leaf springs front to back. The problem with this was the overload leaves wouldn't line up with the pads. I considered the frame stretch as well...
Only me! Funny story. The other day I walked by the wrecker project truck and realize that despite themfact it hasn't been driven, it had a blowout. LF tire blown out at the top. Being one that can't tolerate the sight of a truck with a flat, I set out to change it.
This truck already has a...
As a matter of fact, it is. This is a Holmes 1100 Trooper. The 1200 Commander is the same wrecker with dual winches. I hope to find a 1200 in the future and add the dual winches and dual block boom. One day at a time though.
Finally got the bed situated to where I can fiddle with it. Right bedside is gone and the left half removed. Will clean up the bottom and build new control rods and light buckets.
I need to study the bed. Might be able to move the mount. At this point I'm thinking by going to the 60" C/A length opens up more possibilities of different beds in the future. Also for consideration is if I'm going to put it on the frame stretcher, I could go as far as the 84" C/A length and...
Well, the first day of the season where I could tolerate working outside. I removed the back half of the truck frame that came with my bed and started laying out measurements. Originally I was going to flip the leaves to get tbe 60" cab to axle length. Next was to lop 4'' off the front of the...
I did my rear brake lines last month. Yeah, they are super tight in there. Still need to swap the master cylinder and bleed it. Might make andedicated bleed wrench for them.
Looks mean Brett. Did you do the double spacers on a chassis cab axle to get the tires on? I hope to work on mine a little this winter. Heat and injuries have kept me off the playing field for many months.
