Nope, I still have kids at home and frankly, if anything pops on my 6.2, I'll install an LS. Originality is not as important as it once was for me. As for your truck, it's a work of art and I watch with baited breath for it's completion.
I can't begin to imagine what that set you back. With that said, it looks like that external girdle and pan could be added to a 6.2. As usual, top shelf stuff.
The 700R4 was in 3/4 ton trucks as well. The early bugs have been worked out and a decent rebuild can handle 3 times the output of a 6.2. Before you consider not using the 700R4, ask the many many members that have done the swap what their opinion is. You will not find a single disappointed...
I would side on swapping inputs and a light rebuild. Another option is to pick up a used 208 or 241 and freshen up one of those. The 205 is stupid strong but the 1.96 low isn't the best and they are quite heavy. I have one here going in one of.my trucks that's getting a 4 speed. Later it will...
