I just buy surplus GI pins. I can write a check, mail it and in a week I have new pins. I don't need to be challenged to make something I can buy from home.
Gerhard, I have enough for all my trucks for quite a while. I'd give up a half dozen without batting an eye. These are genuine GI pins and I've got $2 each in them. If I can't afford to cough up $12 for the cause, I'm in the wrong hobby. Gladly send them if you want them!
Perhaps you guys are using the wrong grade shear pins. I bought a stash of genuine GI pins from Gene Patano in CO. I can drag my truck with locked brakes easily with the correct aluminum shear pin. If the holes in the shaft or yoke are wallowed out, it will shear the pin as well. I have loaded...
