    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

After almost 3 years of loyal service, my 4L80E gave up the ghost. I loaned my truck to my sister back in late May so she could help set up some jumps and get stuff prepped for a horse show my niece was riding in. She kept the truck for 3 months (horse show season) and absolutely fell in love...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

No...but I think the engine was rebuilt/replaced by Uncle Sugar before DRMO claimed it...Merle has 95,000 miles on his odometer, but the 6.2 runs like a well oiled sewing machine. I'll drop the pan and check the mains when I go to stuff the turbo under the hood...see how cherry the mill is.

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Whew - I finally got my trans sorted out...third time was the charm with the EZ-TCU. Oh, and the TCI system only works with the "new style" internal harness. If you have the old 4L80E harness, it throws temp fault codes and won't come out of recovery mode (2nd gear only). It cost me an arm and a...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Heck no! They paid to fetch and return both times. This is their last chance...the techs are really nice, but slow as molasses. They kept telling me "These things have a less than 1% failure rate..." It's my personal experience, but they're running a 200% fail rate. I sure hope it works this time.

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

So TCU #2 failed the dyno test back at TCI, and the FEDEX guy dropped box#3 on my porch last night. Let's hope the third time is a charm, otherwise the whole shooting match is going back to TCI for a refund...and I'm considering sending them a bill for the 3 x installation / removals. Gahhhhh!

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

I'm so hopping mad I could spit. TCI's dyno was down, so they sat on it for a week for swapping out a new computer (after I called and yelled). The new unit got here on 13 August, and my mechanic tried Thr and Fri to get it working, but got a new fault - no power to computer. He rechecked the...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

The computer finally arrived back at TCI today, all the way in Ashland, MS. They are going to "run diagnostics on it" (why it didn't get this before it was shipped is a mystery) and get it back to me in a few days. I'm thinking I have lost yet another week with the testing and the shipping back...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Ugh... I had a heck of a time getting everything wired together, so I enlisted some help from a local trans shop. After their top mechanic spent several hours on it, he called TCI and talked to them about the difficulties. The tech confirmed they had a few bad units recently, so it needed to...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

I'll let you know how it goes...I intend to do the exact same thing! I can not wait to get Merle back on the road with a real OD trans...be cruising as slick as you and your 700R4 equipped 1008's.

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

FEDEX man brought the Dakota Digital DSL-2 flywheel sensor/tachometer interface in from Speedway today. If it would quit raining (cats and &$%# dogs), I might be able to get this ****ed thing together this weekend. Excited to get this done and back on the road.

Guess what just showed up from FEDEX?!? TCI controller and throttle position sensor!

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

yup - budgeting for a longer front shaft and a shorter rear. I'm hoping my TH-400 will hold on for a few more weeks so I can hide a few more shekels and assemble the last few bits for the install!

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Learned a few engines ago - ALWAYS go with new bolts/studs on the exhaust manifolds (and other high heat/stress areas). That was a painful lesson I am not likely to forget anytime soon.

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Ah - Thanks - makes sense now! I'm not planning on lifting Merle at this time, so I hope I won't be chasing driveline vibration gremlins. If i do get a shudder, I'll probably just shim the rear to get the angle back in tolerance. That will work...wont't it? Experts who have done this, feel free...

Clepto - what's an SYE on the transfer (pardon my ignorance)?

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

We we aren't to the turbo just yet...trans crapping out is the more pressing need. I have all the oil lines in the turbo I scavenged... gotta go back and look at them again. They are both the braided stainless with the anodized fittings, and the return line runs back into the block off plate on...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

TCI shift controller and Throttle Position Sensor ordered, and none too soon... TH 400 is making some weird noises and shifting hard (doesn't like DC traffic). I sense a weekend in the not so distant future will be occupied by a transmission transplant for Merle!

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Alright - 3 hours in the broiling sun (it hit 84 deg down in Montross, where I got this thing) dropping the trans, crossmember, and front drive shaft (just in case) and I'm smoked.... but I have a cherry, rebuilt 4L80E. The guy spent close to $5k at the dealership getting it installed, drove it...

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Looks like here: http://www.usshift.com/pricing.shtml if that's shift controller and harness for $665, that's not bad at all! how tough was the install, Clepto?

    Looking to give my 1028 a 6.5 turbo/4L80E a heart transplant....

Yes on the intake manifold (that big silver thing on the tailgate), and no on the drivers side exhaust manifold. The crossover was set up to run the passenger side 6.5 exhaust manifold (turbo mounts there) and the driver's side 6.2 exhaust manifold. I think that, if I fiddle with it, I'll be...
