Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Which brings me back to an earlier thought. The actual transmission input RPM sensor failed(passenger side bottom of the transmission about 2” back from where transmission joins with the engine bell), and some bright light did a field alt to use the engine RPM sensor to keep the vehicle...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Yep, but I am thinking they are meaning engine speed(RPM) :)

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Yep, that same speed signal that feeds CTIS also feeds the speedometer... I think the sensor near the bottom of the forward transmission bellhousing is another engine/input RPM sensor as it is so far forward on the housing. It is labeled “transducer, motional”. A vehicle speed sensor would...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

That was why I asked the OP to make sure we were talking about the same sensor, on the yellow cat bellhousing, right behind the block, about the 2 O'clock position when looking toward the rear. He confirmed this... I have no other sensors on the cat half of the bellhousing(yellow). The only...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

OK, did some test drives to get a feel for the drivetrain(pulled a little to the left when braking:)) and did them all with the RPM sensor disconnected. Pulled the sensor and did some intital tests in my yard, forward/reverse 100’ runs AOK. Took it down the drive and out onto my road to work...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

OK, I am about ready for some test drives, I will try disconnecting mine.

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

where is it physically located on the engine/transmission? I just want to make sure we are all on the same page. The one on my 3116 engined 1079 is on top of the cat bellhousing right behind the block left of center... Mine was a bit of a basket case with a ton of electrical issues. The...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Starting in second is correct, but If it were normal, it should have a 7 off to the left indicating speeds available up to 7... I will look over the A0 schematics again tomorrow, but the only speed sensor I see does not connect to the Allison at any point that I have found. That was why I want...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Got a pic of the sensor? What year is your vehicle?

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Snowtrac told you why. The HEUI 3126 and C7 use electric over hydraulic fuel injection. Their ECU’s may use that signal, the MUI 3116/3126 are dumb old diesels and dont need it unless you want a tach... I think your trans issue was not related to this sensor. Quick check is to disconnect it...

Is an Engine Speed sensor necessary?

Oops, i was thinking it went to the trans controller... On the A0 schematic the RPM sensor goes to the tach plug and the freq divider box. The freq divider output goes on to the STE/ICE Plug. Trans RPM appears to be sensed internally in the transmission...
