I guess I have a heck of a lot of luck for a lot of years. Leaving the headlights on for a constant load helps avoid spikes. Spikes come from transient loads.

You could also try jumping it through the NATO connector on the pax side of the cab if you have either a friend with an mv or a couple of batteries. I'd disconnect the existing truck batteries first. If the alternator is good, once the truck is started you can limp...
