    Found these in the oilpan

A'ight, to close this thread off: I finally got the air compressor off and took a look at it. It looked ruddy pristine. Clearly NOT the cause of my bits of shrapnel in the engine. I'm down to just parts that were left over in the engine and the hard driving shook them loose. I examined the...

    Found these in the oilpan

Thanks - I'll just manuever them back into their slots. The engine is not a rebuild - at least thats my assumption since there is no rebuild tag, and only the original installation plate on the block. These id plates have been wrong before though - so anything is possible.

    Found these in the oilpan

I keep going back to junk leftover, but these issues are new ones that have surfaced since the last oil change. I still have to remove the air compressor and check it. At this point I am leaning towards the fuel dilution in my oil caused my compressor to take a dump and lose parts into the...

    Found these in the oilpan

Pulled the cylinder heads finally. The gaskets actually looked pretty good, there was some buildup in the water passages that caused the heads to push up a little, causing my leaks from the head. No visible damage anywhere, cylinders looks dirty but definitely good. I do have 2 of the...

    Found these in the oilpan

Further developments: I got the bottom end all buttoned back up and finally got everything stripped off the heads today. I pulled the pushrods, and found the below on rods between pistons 5 and 6. Looks like debris inside got bounced around maybe? Anyone ever seen anything like this? I haven't...

    Found these in the oilpan

yeah, I thought at first that they were torx bolts, but they're 12pt sockets. So I pulled all my main and rod bearings, nothing bad enough to need a change. The worst one was the one I uploaded the picture and the rest looked good or really good. Guess I'll pull the compressor next week...

    Found these in the oilpan

Ok, I need some counsel from folks smarter than me. I pulled my bearing caps and all my mains (except one) look brand new. The one exception has some wear on it, but nothing catastrophic, in fact it doesn't even look like it has to be replaced. Is it possible the rod bearings could be bad...

    Found these in the oilpan

I actually have the turbo off as I am doing HG on the truck right now too - fortunately it is in great shape - tight, good spin with no play in any direction. The silver lining in all this ;-)

    Found these in the oilpan

Can you explain this one for me a little better? Not sure I follow, and if I need to do it before I order parts it's next on my list.

    Found these in the oilpan

I pulled the oil filters today. The first thing I noticed were small metal shavings in the bottom of the filter well. I opened up the filters and found metal fragments in the filters themselves. Fragments did not respond to magnets. After dropping the pan I took a good look at the crank - it...

    Found these in the oilpan

Definitely piled up material vs something threaded. Looks like something rotating shaved a small amount each rotation and it built up. I am picking up my air compressor today that I lent out so I can drop the oilpan. Good call on the filters Will. I will cut them open to see what they show.

    Found these in the oilpan

My truck is dumping fuel in the crankcase via the HH. I am waiting on new o-rings to take care of it, and in the meantime I drained the oil in preparation for replacing it all. I drained ~13 GALLONS of liquid out of the oil pan (you can imagine the mess when my usual 5ga oil catch pan didn't...
