I do want to get a trailer also. I'm hoping to find a decent M101a3 within my budget.
The bed is being taken care of as we speak. After the GA rally I should be driving back home in an M1028.
That's one of the main reasons I decided to convert it back to a 1028. I figure with the weight of the welder/generator and that big azz box I'm carrying around at least 1500 excess pounds. And that equates to way too much lost fuel.
When I had my 3/4 ton Ram, that truck didn't start to ride...
We'll keep that plan in mind.
I was starting to disassemble the extra pieces of the welder/generator for removal just this morning, the parts that connect it to the box. As I'm doing that, I started thinking about why in the world I would want to keep it. I have generators so I don't need it...
I need to get with John Moore sometime this week. He said he might have a line on an entire truck with a nice bed cheap! Or I/we still need to find something.
I would expect mine to get a lot better as well once I remove the 1 ton of excess weight I have to haul around every time I move the...
I know it has been a long time since this thread has ben used, but I don't drive the truck a whole lot. Over the weekend I took the 1028/1031 to the Findlay Armed Forced Day show and back. Firstly, if you've never been there you need to go, it is a BLAST!!!
Anyway, this summer I plan on...
Pete, I did post some info about drivability and a little about mpg up in the thread somewhere. But for the information, it drives GREAT. MPG is not as good as I had hoped, but it is better than it was. It would be better if I slowed down, but the only times I've run the truck was to work and...
Dave,
For the lock-up I used the brake light wiring kit from Bowtie Overdrives. With the kit they give you a new lock-up solenoid and 4th gear pressure switch, along with a new brake light switch (one from a truck with cruise control). The installation was pretty simple. You replace your...
Good point. I'm SURE I could get better mileage if I slowed down to the 55-60 range. But that's the reason I did the swap in the first place, so I wouldn't have to just drive 55-60. Most of my driving is on the highway, and It takes me an hour 20 minutes to get to work doing 70....I don't...
Well, I had a chance to drive the truck a little bit. I drove it to work 2 days this past week. A total of 311.7 miles, I was a little surprised to only get about 13 MPG out of it for the 2 trips. But, I did like the fact that I could make it to work in my normal amount of time...going 70 on...
Steve, i'm not sure if there is a thread for common parts or not. But, the CUCV's all use the same stock engine and transmissions, and to the best of my knowledge there are only 2 options for the transfer case the NP205 & NP208. The only real differences in them comes in the axles and gear...
At 45? A lot less noise. Heck, it's even way quieter at 70 than it was at 55 before. Especially with the drive shaft not wobbling all over the place ;)
I did buy that from Rockauto.com and they even had the right plate listed. The Rockauto item was and ATP Part # Z135 and beside that was I believe the GM part # of 14077158
This truck is so much fun to drive around now that I have it back on the road, and the overdrive is just awesome!
I was doing some plumbing in the basement today, and needed to go into town to the hardware store. On the way out the door, I paused to grab my keys and thought....screw it, I...
My TV bracket was a gift from a good friend. Several people have had really good luck finding them in junk yards (the ones you get to scrounge around in and pull the parts yourself) They can be found on old pick-ups, blazers, suburbans and even vans as long as it had the 6.2 with a 700R4 from...
I hated to get rid of it too, but with my back issues, it was just too big for me to maintain properly. I'm still kicking around the idea of turning this thing back into a 1028 with a regular bed down the road.
I can't help you out with those questions, I never researched that far into it.
The 700R4 is a little lighter duty transmission.
I read somewhere that the code for the 4L60, 4L60e and 4L80e were...
4 = 4 speed automatic
L = Longitudinal mount
60 = 6000 # vehicle rating / 80 = 8000#
e = electronic shift
That price for the rebuild is a fair one if they are going to beef it up a little bit. Not to be a Negative Nelly, but does the shop know what truck it's going to go into to offer a warranty with it? That transmission in a 1 ton would almost certainly make them think twice about it. The shift...
