    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

Sorry to hear that, cancer SUCKS! I was lucky, mine was easily cut from my left kidney. The 2' incision wasn't easy but it forced me to be a lazy slug for 3 months. I wanted to make the trip but the slow pace and my truck only getting 4mpg put a damper on that.

Paul, if you are referring to Chris Brown, who is either in charge of safety or helps with safety protocol, he's up here in Washington State.

Nice, only $1.20 a mile for me.

It's comforting to hear that an agreement has been reached with all dangerous animals that they will take the day off when the convoy stops/camps in any remote locations! [thumbzup]

A Diesel M37 would be ideal!

Jeeps get lousy gas mileage as found out the hard way on the last event. Mind you, none of my stuff gets any better, everything I have just happens to have a larger tank, 155 gal for the HEMTT

When I went negative it was about MY OWN shortcomings in my ability to remain sane going 30 mph (that's assuming I'm sane now, which is debatable). I want to go in the worst way, not sure if I can make sure my truck is totally dependable for 7,000+ miles and it is a 1984 with 28,000 miles on...

Is it ambitious? YES! Can it be done, sure. The key will be well serviced and maintained vehicles. They are doing a good thing by planning well ahead and giving people time to get their rigs into top condition. Got a weepy seal? Get it fixed BEFORE the trip. Not a noisy transmission? R&R...

Thanks Thunder, I've downloaded the FM and will read it to answer my questions.

The 2009 event had a period correct 191x year vehicle. I'm sorry guys but anything slower than a WWII Jeep will kill it for me. As I said 35, is fine but slower is a non starter. I know myself too well that if the road allows it, 45 mph is a better speed. It gives me more beer and BS time...

    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

35 mph I can handle, I might just be able to get the trans to shift into high gear but with an Allison you can't force it. My wife says BS to 35, she doesn't believe it. A friend of ours did the 2009 trip and he told tales of 20's VERY often. Plonkers with WWII Jeeps running out of fuel...

I don't see spending about $4500 on 1150 gallons of fuel to drive that slow is something I can stand. Besides, having a crane on my 8x8 truck, I might be asked to fix or tow everything that breaks.

    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

The painfully slow pace is one of the reasons I'm sitting on the fence on this trip. I don't want to drive anywhere at 25-30 mph unless the terrain is THAT difficult as to require it. All of Alaska's portion is supposed to be paved with some frost heaves in places and Canada's portion is...
