Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

I bought over 100 new nuts and a buch of bolts too to replace any that seems to have a distorted thread.

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Check this out…crazy….so here are the wheel weights, 72 pieces (last row is doubled up) x 1/4oz = 18oz…this tire has the most weights of all and is also the one that induces the increased vibration at higher speeds…. At the time I didn’t think much of the huge amount of weights as I heard that...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Yes. I only lifted one wheel and tried to mark it by hand. You are right about not making a big difference, and that’s to speeds up to 65mph, after that the truck starts to vibrate between 65mph and 80mph, and I just want it to be very smooth across the whole range, that’s why the obsession...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Yes, that’s exactly what I am planning, to do the rim without the tire.

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Yes, very good! I was going to make a simple holder and combine it with the creeper to advance it slowly and mark it more precisely than by hand, but there is not much room on the inside, I presume you marked it by hand? I always tend to make things more complicated and create a lot more work...

Did you mark it on the rim cap (the one that has the 24 holes) or on the larger rim part (which has the 24bolts)?

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

I am about to redo some of the tires and I can see how to easily mark the high spot on the large half of the wheel (which I think is the one that matters more?) coming from the outside, perpendicular with a chalk. To mark the low spot, I would have to come from the center of the tire...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread, it should be in the "Best way to remove rust from 24 bolts wheel" thread, it can be move/ removed. I ended up using some Rustoleum Rust Disolver, it supposed to be safe on metal (not acid based) and ads some protection after removing the rust (the...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Please let us know how the tires run after installing, if any vibration at freeway speeds?

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Yes, it is the same, they didn’t have it in stock in my area, otherwise I would have gotten it and the next size up was huge. Good to hear that it worked well!

Here is what I used from O’reilly, it’s a concentrated tire mounting compound for about $9: The bag makes a lot more than is needed for a few tires and I saved the unused liquid into a bottle. It’s a good idea to use something specifically made for tires because some soap based liquids can...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

I am actually exactly the opposite and my comment was tangential on “understanding”, sorry for the digression. All I was trying to say earlier is that it’s a good idea to have something substantial able to cut the tire across, quickly (not just the sidewalls, which is much easier) without...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Yes, when that happened I ended up changing the tire, but it was dark and I would have preferred to make it home on the runflat, only a few miles away and fix it there while having a cold one :) That also made me realize that I would not want to be in that situation if I had the kids with me...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Oh, I am not talking about anyone shooting, just from my own experience. I had a front tire fail on a main busy road at around 50-60mph on a downhill slope and didn’t know it right away (engine, road and wind noise cover a lot of body noises, it’s not like a regular car when you can tell much...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

When the tire fails it starts falling apart as you drive on it and pieces of it that are still attached start to hit the wheel well, which really limits how fast you can drive because it slams it very hard, therefore be prepared to have something handy to cut the tire belt as it separates from...

I have MTs too and same 24 paired bolts, I think those rims are the best.

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

Can you tell which tire vibrates when you drive? Can tell if its the one with the wonky runflat for sure? I did the same, made the worst tire the spare, but still have one that's a little bumpy, it starts around 65-70mph, until then it's smooth. I took some air out of the tires for now...

Runflat removal and install - some good and bad

I did try the Balance Masters and I am sure it does help, in my case I have the up-and-down bump, which neither of them can help with (I am planning to go back with Balance Masters once I fix the bump). Do you remember if you did something different on the first truck that made the tires run...

The red dot has to do with the tire uniformity and the yellow with weight: https://www.yokohamatire.com/tires-101/maintenance-care-1/mounting-your-tires https://www.tires-easy.com/blog/what-are-the-red-and-yellow-dots-on-my-tires/ Looking back on how I built the tires, maybe on some I used...
