...but nothing here states that any state's DMV/BMV is REQUIRED to allow you to license/register said ex-MV. The common perception that I interpret from all this is a belief that just because the Government or some entity can SELL you an ex-MV, that the government - whether local or Federal -...
Firstly, I don't call anyone a moron - these people do as they are instructed. And many rules/laws are written because - well, facve it - people are pretty effin' stupid animals.... witness the reason that Preparation H has a note on back stating: 'This product is not to be taken orally'...
And... misinformation continues being spread.
Nader DIDN'T get the Corvair killed; never did, never could. GM had already decided in 1966 to start winding down the Corvair, due to the rise in popularity of the Ford Mustang & the impending arrival in 1967 of Chevrolet's own Camaro.
Nader did...
Heath - I'm all for older vehicle ownership, but there's a bit of misquote in your comment above -
The M151 MUTT wasn't pulled from potential civilian ownership because of it's perception as being a competitor to the sales of any civvy F150/Jeep/Bronco, it had EVERYTHING to do with the fact...
Curious -
63foxtrot - your info says that you are located in Los Angeles, CA, yet you're trying to get this HMMWV registered in AZ?

Similar situation occurs when same...
...the most important difference between the HMMWV & the H1 one is obvious - the H! was designed and certified for civilian use. It has the proper provenance from the Feds at the EPA/NHTSA/DOT that ALLOW it to be registered.

Copy of letter from AM General to Connecticut DMV - this basic letter has 'supposedly' been sent to the DMV's in all 50 states...

If one DMV office in the state can overrule the ruling of another DMV office in the same state, they why the &$*% would the state set laws/rules making the HMMWV unregisterable?? :cookoo:

Because the H1 came through specific design channels & had changes made to it that appeased the Feds from the get-go... the H1 cannot be compared to the HMMWV, as even though ~ 99% of the parts are the same, AM General never had the HMMWV certified by the Feds for road use after the military was...
The imported Nissan Skyline R33/34's NEVER met regs established by the EPA/DOT/NHTSA... ever. Guys tried to bring them in on the coattails of the R32's that were converted by a couple Federally-certified importers - and the Feds have been scooping up/impounding/crushing the illegal Skylines...
