OK course they do - they are also all dressed as East Germans:)
Some have the MPi versions of the AK as well (East German manufactured AKs are named MPi-****)
I think they make great accessories as well[thumbzup]
BTW - went back and upload all the pics for this thread as attachments so they cannot be lost later.
OK - so just got back from picking up the BTR - had trailer troubles last weekend when coming home.
So 9 more hours of driving one of the Deuces up there and back to get the BTR home again.
But it is home now and it did get used some for the event. It was fun driving it around and seeing it...
So - finally got the BTR-40 painted a couple weeks ago.
Could not get the RAL 6003 in matte since I waited too late before EW3 to get it done.
Had paint color matched to a model paint called 'Russian Armor Green' after trying several similar colors as well.
Did not turn out too bad after all...
Probably - though if the rest of East Wind did not scare them that would not even phase them:)
We field a Russian and an East German unit - uniforms, radios, tents and some vehicles - you name it. As close to being in the Warsaw Pact armies as it gets.
I hope to finally get my BTR-40...
Actually - the modified BTR-40s needs Hebrew commands:)
It would be very cool if you wanted to hit East Wind on your way through.
I am thinking that it would be a rare event to have two operational BTR-40s working together again in the US.
Wow - somebody just got an awesome deal
That BTR-40 only went for $12k !!
Maybe I should have went ahead and bid.
Less than half of what I paid for mine - man that made the bottom drop out of my stomach:cry:
Do we know who got it?
Seller said 11,700 lbs - seems about right - I have not weighed it myself.
Only thing bad is that it has the larger GAZ-66 tires which hurts the turning radius and load carrying ability.
BTW - could probably use your Jazerka this year. There is some possibility for Blue Air:(
Trust me - if I was not making 2 house payments right now - I would be going after this BTR-40 as well.
That way I could have a pair:)
As for road speed - not sure what thier issue was/is.
I drove mine the 105 miles from my old house to my new one.
Did ~50mph most of the way just fine...
Same one as he posted. Got it from John and Larry over at Track Kickers | Registered ATF Importer of Military Vehicles
They have a lot of cool toys!
I am going to try and avoid the getting stuck part -it no longer has its winch in the nose for self recovery:(...
Today the APC fairy arrived at my house
What was that? Better check it out!

It would be another addition to the East Wind motorpool.
Turns out the East Germans used them up until the end so it will work for East Wind to haul the NVA troops around.
It would need a new paintjob.
I am not intending much "offroading" in the rock crawler or muding sense.
Going across...
That is the one that I am looking at and got me on this track.
I got some info from the www.russianmilitarytrucks.com forum
One of the guy's dad used to drive them and he made some calls as well.
Here is what I have learned:
- underpowered offroad and slow
- low ground clearance...
OK - looking into the possibilty of a BTR-40 to add to my motorpool.
One thing that worries me is the official reports of "poor off-road requirements"
I have not found what that really means. Is that compared to a GAZ69 or a T-55? What did/does it not do that they determined was needed...
