    Electric Winch Install

It "might" get you out provided you don't drain your batteries before you are out of the water etc. I mean electrical winches has their merits, but its not for fun and games when people that are using their winches in a professional and regular capacity tend to favour Hydraulics over electrics...

    Electric Winch Install

Im still a fan of hydraulic over electric anytime. Just down to the fact that you can't really burn it out like you can with an electric winch. And that there is no limitations on how "hard" you can run it or how many times a day you can run it without having it cool down.

    Electric Winch Install

Vertical lifting can potentially add more weight to the effort required ie the difference between dragging a 65T tank along a road, or lifting it off the road and carrying it etc.

    Electric Winch Install

Which is correct, if you are trying to pull something straight "along" a level surface it will always require less work, than if you are trying to pull up an incline since you will have gravity working against you as well if that makes sense?

    Electric Winch Install

I'm not sure what you are getting at?. If I were I might be able to explain myself out of it, or explain better :). And I was talking about pulling UP a gradient, not at an angle. Pulling at an angle to the vehicle you are trying to recover "shouldn't" add more work required, but it some cases...

    Electric Winch Install

True that, I have seen a few clips on youtube where they park one right next to a divider and then makes the HMMWV scale it, and drop down again, so yea I can see that part of my argument is flawed :). But I would think the 40/40 for the wrecker isn't as far of a stretch in regards to actually...

    Electric Winch Install

Kalashnikov, I know there are some video's of hairy recoveries out there. But what I meant was that the number of cases were you would need 3x vehicle weight as the minimum effort required are very few and far between. But like I also just pointed out "more or less" any vehicle can be used to...

    Electric Winch Install

I don't refute what you use as material etc for it, don't get me wrong there :). But I tend to err on the side of assumption that a vehicle that has ie 40/40 Approach/Departure at least would be able to negotiate a grade at that incline/decline and possible more. But at the very least, should be...

    Electric Winch Install

Then you misread what I "said". I didn't say a recovery at that angle was impossible, rather that I haven't heard of any stock vehicle military or commercial that could go up a 72° incline or decline. The only vehicles known to me that is able to negotiate an incline that steep is modified frame...

    Electric Winch Install

In order for you to get 3x weight as the effort required you would be out where you most likely wouldn't be able to help it anyway. If you look at my previous calculation it is as "accurate" as it can get applying only math. But a truck etc in burried in deep mud up to the buttom would only...

    Electric Winch Install

M936, M936A1, M936A2 has a 45,000 pound rear winch. All other models has a 20,000 winch on the front according to the 5-ton TM. All the numbers I us come from the 5-Ton TM. For this "experiment" I am using the M931A2 and the M936 as the 2 example trucks as they are the lightest and heaviest...

    Electric Winch Install

I have the danish army wreckers guide sitting in front of me right now. If someone wants me to I can whip a little number for how much pulling effort would be required to "unstick" a 5ton buried in mud :P

    Electric Winch Install

Well a Deuce weights more then 10,000 does it not?

    Electric Winch Install

Hmm I wonder if that would fit on a Deuce <.<

    Electric Winch Install

I take it the 5-Ton PTO/Hydraulic winch is rated for more then 10,000 then as opposed to the Deuce Winch??
