    My M813 gets a turbo!

Recently I've noticed that as the rpms get to around 1800 the red indicator of the filter minder starts to float up as the turbo is screaming for more air. The gauge does not max out and the filter is clean. I didn't see this behavior with the stock tires but with the 16.00s it's definitely a...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

-An update on the suppressor paint that I used on the hot parts: When I got the truck out of outdoor winter hibernation I noticed some surface rust on the turbo compressor scroll and on the exhaust port flanges. Most of the rust on the turbo was due to the coolant filter dripping some rusty...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Thank you - I like it a lot! Too bad I didn't hit the jakes in the video, but I will next time 😁

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Beautiful day for a drive, but the camera memory ran out before I could get to a place where jake brakes are allowed...next time

    My M813 gets a turbo!

I took the same route for a second test drive now with the #17 button and it feels like I went from a loaded truck to an empty truck 😁 On the same incline where it was 9 psi/800° it was now 11+ psi/800°. I'm not really running around to do data logging I'm just noting what I saw at a glance -...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Today I swapped out the fuel button for a #17 and was surprised to find a #37 in the pump. I was expecting a #28 based on what most people report finding in their rigs. I wonder if M816s have lower number buttons than M813s because of their weight?... The button in the pump read "37 USA...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Well, the first test drive was a success! No leaks, no cracks, no misses, no smoke, no fires, no cops, no tow trucks, no heat issues, and also... no video...sorry. What i did have was lots of throaty exhaust roar, turbo whine, and jake brake bark 😁 The new 5" exhaust with short muffler is...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Well thanks man, glad you like it! I really hope the paint holds out and it's a bit of an experiment to see how it does with the heat, grease/oil, and the UV exposure on the stack. I'll keep the group updated as it ages so we know if it's worth the cost or not $$$. I'm thinking I'll have to...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Thank you - much appreciated! It sounds awesome so far and hopefully it pulls awesome as well. I have to pick up a new 8D before I can take it on the road so I should be cruising pretty soon 😎

    My M813 gets a turbo!

And...that's a wrap! This turbo install is finished! Phew!...that only took 4 months...plus the 4 months of researching and buying parts before that. By far my most intense project to date but I think it turned out pretty nice. After some test drives I will be swapping out the fuel button...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

To cut the hole in the passenger side panel for the air intake i first trimmed back the stiffener rib and I had a 6 3/8" i.d. stencil made from 10 ga. that will produce a 6" hole with the plasma cutter. The fit was so close to the panel latches and hinge that the stencil had to trimmed but the...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Thank you! I didn't quite get around to driving it this weekend like i had planned but I should be done with the entire install tomorrow. I want to do some shake down runs before I do any filming so it may be a week or two yet.

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Yes, I'm very fortunate to have a full manufacturing shop at my disposal and fortunate to be working with dozens of skilled fabricators & machinists. I sure don't take it for granted because for maybe 15 years I had to make due with improvisations like using a hammer & punch instead of a press...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Yes, my coworker who's doing the welds on this project is both really good and super willing which is a hard combination to find these days.

    My M813 gets a turbo!

I made some more progress on the intake piping between the air cleaner and the turbo and I got the stack & heat shield installed. Looks like I didn't need to buy an extension splice as the 4" length I cut off the stock intake pipe is the right size to space the 90° elbow off the air cleaner for...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

It's alive!!! The low batteries took some coaxing but eventually they spun it over enough to fire. Revved it up to 1200 rpm a few times to hear the whistle, let it warm up to 130°F and then shut it down. I still have to finish the piping from air cleaner to turbo, install the stack, and...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

The heater is now mounted in its new location on the driver's side fender and my last two parts I needed arrived today so this turbo is ready to start whistling! The flame guard is made by Holly (p/n HL571232ERL) and is smooth but grippy on the outside like shark skin and the inside is woven...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

I'm still waiting for the little 7/8" x 3" long hose to connect the turbo oil drain to the block fitting and that is all that's holding me up from starting my engine. It never arrived last night so I have to wait till next week 😩 While I wait I've swapped the paint pattern on the air canister...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Tonight all I did was adjust the muffler saddle bracket to mate up with the muffler and get all of that cinched down so no new pics tonight. I did want to expand on my flavor of turbo and how I ended up there. What I was shooting for was a divided entry turbo for the improved air velocity/...

    My M813 gets a turbo!

Here's some pics of my last batch in the oven. Those door handles are about 4.5 feet high and there's a 55 gallon oil drum on the left side for a sense of scale. You could bake a huge pizza in this thing!
