for "WHAT?!? $582.00 Won Us an M818 Tractor!
UPDATE...
The negotiations for the XM818 are moving slowly. Decisions by "committees" seem to take time melding multiple opinions into one conclusion.
I'm beginning to feel like I'm standing at the counter in the TV show PAWN STARS trying to wrangle a mutually agreeable price while the...
Well, our conversation(s) have led to a road trip this morning to preview the potential purchase.
Prayerfully, we are patiently negotiating a favorable purchase.
Though some of the original information about this truck was confused with another vehicle in the VFD's inventory, we are now...
Our motorpool may be pregnant!
We have been looking for a tractor (at a better than excellent price preferred) and recently we were led to an M818 about 100 miles from here that a VFD has as surplus. It's only two years out of an Army rebuild from what they claim, and they have made no...
Thanks, Rory.
I have the metal parts and pieces, would just "need" the rubbers.
There's a local truck parts house that has those for about what any shipping costs would be.
My only excuse for having not already mounted them is procrastinating over the very little bit of straightening that the...
Thank you, Michael.
We are still enjoying the ARK and the trailers in the motorpool now as well. Still looking for an M818 (or possibly M931/M932) Tractor.
Praying blessings upon you and yours.
John
Thank you for contributing to this thread. Your story strikes a vibrant chord with me.
Be blessed in all you do in and all that you are doing for the MV hobby and history preservation.
John
First off....
The West Texas Detachment of the SS welcomes you aboard :-D Find a bunk, stow your gear, and prepare to get underway :driver:
Next...
Good luck on your search for a Deuce. My best advice would be to be patient, keep your eyes open, and pray.
Your idea of "Will work for...
The saga continues - Alternative Fuel experience
Well, I have bitten the bullet and am now burning a 50/50 mix of Diesel and WVO (Waste Veggie Oil).
Some dear friends of ours LOVE fried foods and even have a Turkey Fryer. They have been graciously saving the WVO (pretty clean stuff) for The...
I found those wiley stencils.... Yup! They were "right where I left them." rofl
Lt. Murphy (GI Joe) helped get the job done.
Here's the finished bumper, complete with authentic "stencil overspray" (that was intentional).
The nose and bumper of The Ark are now painted - - - Just need to add the Bumper Numbers. I put the stencils "some place safe" and now I can't find 'em. Getting old and forgetful I suppose. I'll keep hunting for the stencils and post more pics when that task is done as well.
Yes, that's an...
Yup!
I forgot to mention the "extras" that came with the bumper....
1. One bent, but salvagable step;
2. One shackle (anybody have an extra to "donate"?)
3. Used ALL their newer bolts for mounting - they're really nice guys [thumbzup]
4. Bumper has three threaded posts welded on top...
BIG UGLY Brush Guard swapped for Clean Bumper
Well, we've had The ARK for a little more than a year now.
Yesterday, about two minutes before I was going to leave the office (at funeral home) for lunch (1pm-ish), the Sterling City Volunteer Fire Department's Chief called me. They have been...
You are very welcome!
As for the Low Air Pressure Buzzer....
Actually, you CAN move/drive a DEUCE without any air pressure at all. They have a form of POWER BRAKES that's called AIR OVER HYDRAULIC (Cars typically have VACCUUM ASSIST type power brakes). Anywaze... You "can" drive a Deuce...
James,
I've not encountered any need to find fuel lines here. I'd suggest a SEARCH using keywords that are appropriate to find things in the forums. The SEARCH function on teh site may not be the best in the world, but you'll learn alot just looking at the "scenery" while you try to find...
