    M1009 axles under a M1008

If you are going to be towing 10K pounds or working the truck with heavy loads, yes I would not install 10 bolts. But I am not towing loads heavy enough to damage the axles. With the power out put of the 6.2 you would be hard pressed to take an axle out as is. I installed the 10 bolts for two...

    M1009 axles under a M1008

LMC has them for around 60 bucks with clips. I got mine off eBay from seller bowtie_bits for 49$ with clips and free shipping. I would list that under hood insulation as a 100% MUST do!!!

    M1009 axles under a M1008

I made a short speed run in the HSM1008 today. She will hold 65 with ez and power to 80 on the flats. very smooth at 65 MPH and with the new under hood insulation all you can hear is the wind noise from the 30 year old window seals.

    M1009 axles under a M1008

well I have taken her to Haspin and off roaded it and when in low range she does GREAT! On the road she is a tad doggie with 33" tires and 3.08 gears. If I were going to do it again I would do 3.42's with 33" tires. But the truck drives and feels good at 65 MPH. I did take the rear brake...

    M1009 axles under a M1008

Well I got all the gauges rebuilt and the housing painted and repaired this week. I just ordered a load of the 194 LED lights but I have a question. I know the charging circuit runs thru the gen warning lights.. Will it be ok with LED lights?

Front axle is in! I added a zero rate, longerHD hangers and a extra stock leaf up front. I was a tad surprised on how one leaf could stiffen the front. We all know how arched the springs are and now it's flat! Wheel well height is 40.5" front and 41" rear. I'm going to add one add one more...

    M1009 axles under a M1008

I will have less then a grand in both axles and they both have full rebuilds ( less new gears) including axles, u joints, every brake part and ball joints. I dont think you can beat that with a stick. Also in the first few posts you would have seen that the rear axle was hacked in and not...

    M1009 axles under a M1008

Got the rear axle in and one if the front shackles. I removed two of the rear leafs and re installed the over load spring ad used 4 inch manufactured blocks. Note.... When using a 1/2 ton axle and a small lift you will need to have a new drive shaft made.

    M1009 axles under a M1008

Well I had to remove the two lower leafs so my u bolts would work with 4 inch steel blocks. Good thing too they were broken. And yeah she was due yesterday Kenny. Got a soldier B on the way.

    M1009 axles under a M1008

Fun fact of the day. A 3/4 ton rear end yoke will fit a 1/2 ton ten bolt rear end. I swamped them out so I did not have to spend 35$ on the convertion u joint. I hope to have the rear end installed by the end of the day.

    M1009 axles under a M1008

Well I just ended up ordering new axle kits. Studs, nuts, bearings and seals. If I did not have to replace bearings and seals I would have for sure ran the old axles. But for only 80$ more I could get the axle kit rather then buy new studs, bearings ect... I hope to have the rear axle in late...

    M1009 axles under a M1008

5.38's are the most common ratio but never stock in any GM. Hard to think the gov or anyone else swapped out the gears. I'm betting 4.56's

He came up to the garbage can at my shop and I scared him so he would play dead and then we relocated him to the woods.
