Yes I have the stock NDCC 11.00x20 tires. If anything, the smaller diameter would make it easier to get to top speed, as top speed on these vehicles are limited by their low gears.
I usually shift at 2100 when accelerating.
I was under the impression that turning the screw was to be avoided, and the button should be replaced if you wish to increase fuel pressure. I could be mistaken though.
Something I had wondered is how far is safe when turning up these engines. I know it depends on how you drive it and what you...
Perhaps I will record a better one and post it here ;-)
I spend a fair bit of time in 3rd gear.
I don't know how much snow there is left. Been really mild here in Ohio, but I know NY is usually... not.
Interesting! I have not checked my tank vent, but I have never noticed any suction when removing the cap either.
I will check it, probably tomorrow.
Good suggestion.
45-50 Up a hill, will not happen in my truck, for sure. 35 maybe. I live in Ohio also, so a hill to me is not really a hill to some.
But maybe you all are right.
I will post an acceleration video sometime.
No I have not, so I guess I don't truly know for sure, but is sure seems that way. It struggles to hit 55mph, even on long, flat stretches of road. It must be driven at full throttle to reach anything above 45. I am downshifting at the slightest inclines. I estimate 0-55MPH time is greater than...
My ears are untrained when it comes to these big diesels. I am just going off my gasser knowledge, which I know are very different.
As far as running it, it still has a low power problem, which I attribute to injectors for a few reasons. I don't think it is an air in fuel problem, as I have a...
Another update my friends!
The other day I went to start the truck, and much to my surprise, it started right up. Hit the starter for maybe 2 seconds. This time I had the primer lever pushed in...
I did not record startup, but here are my temp readings after a few minutes of idling...
My truck has always been (at least until recently) an easy starter. When I bought it, it had sat for two+ years. It was like 13F outside, and it startup up (while getting a jump from another truck) on the second, 30 second cranking attempt. Usually it starts up within a few seconds of hitting...
After checking the oil level, and draining a small coolant sample, I decided to attempt to start the engine.I recorded my experience.I was not brave enough to use the manifold heater, as I really did not want to possibly put any more liquid into the cylinders. It is 31F outside, so she wasn't...
I figured it wouldn't be a problem to parallel them up to charge them, but I will heed your words and charge them separately.
Its the glow plug eh? I see. I may have accidentally left that on (while driving) once or twice, but I don't think I have ever left it on for longer than a minute or so...
Today I removed my batteries.
They are Duracell Commercial group 31B's.
Here are my voltage readings:
As you can see, one of my batteries is very low!
I did notice there is a 12 volt tap coming off the terminal on the low battery, so that must be what is causing the drain. I do not yet know...
You are correct. Jumping to conclusions has bitten me in the past, so it may be wise to do a little sit-rep before tearing into things. All I have done thus far, is remove the rocker covers, loosen the injector adjustment screws (and recently reset them back to proper torques), and bar the...
A starting system problem wouldn't cause it to stop (and so suddenly) after it was running.
However, after about an hour of troubleshooting, I tried to turn it over with the starter again, only to find the battery was low (needle buried in red on voltmeter). So I can't really rule it out I...
I will look at the TMs for info on how to pull the injectors, per Wills advice. Do I need a special tool? The 34 TM suggests I do.
No liquids from exhaust piping that I can see.
No unusual noises, it started, ran for a few seconds, then suddenly stopped. No bang.
If it is fluid, what are the...
That is unfortunate, but I suppose new headgaskets wouldn't hurt anyway, as it does leak oil slightly.
I am going to wait to pull the heads just yet, but I will order gaskets.
Doing "major" engine work is not easy in my case, as it must be done outdoors without the assistance of any lifts or...
Thanks doghead. Is it possible to identify a stuck valve without pulling the heads or valvesprings?
I barred the engine over while watching the valvesprings and didn't see anything unusual.
Additionally, I loosened up all injector adjustment screws. There is still no change in engine rotation...
Engine Locked Up? | 855 Cummins
Greetings! Sad times hath befallen.
Today I went to start my M814 with the NHC 250 Cummins. It turned over, and began to start. It spat a good deal of white smoke, but not anything to out of the ordinary for this truck. I felt the engine was running, and...
