We are currently on the C-130 J or H models. Nto sure if they are rebuilds or if they are fresh manufacture. The C-27, which is a "mini-herc" is new manufacture.

you guys received tail number 44008 (I think) within the last few weeks... it was the last C-130 assigned to the deactivating 440th Air Wing out of Pope Army Air Field, formerly Pope Air Force Base, which is attached to Ft. Bragg, NC. Sad day knowing that we won't have C-130s stationed here...

IIRC there are essentially two landing gears, one ski, one wheels. they can be operated independent so you don't have the wheels digging in when landing on snow/ice pack. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Picture 17, in the first batch. the C-130 with the big "03" on it... is that an "arctic" version? looks like sleds or skis or something around the wheels.

external fuel tank converted to a cargo pod probably. one of the pilots talks about it in a video on this site somewhere.
