re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Ok lost a voltage regulator this week after a 40 hour run on a converted MEP-004a. We did this MEP-004 a couple years ago but then it sat - we finally put it to real work and it failed after about 40 hours of serious run time. The unit has done three weeks as house backup a couple years ago but...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Please don't ruin this thread by rat-holing down a path that is not the intent of the thread. Please start another thread; I get it that is a little more work but fixing a diesel overun is another topic. Load balancing and other "proper" effort are not really required in a backup - not often...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

oooyyyy - is the truth stranger than fiction? So first I find it hard to believe that a 10 lead generator will deliver 208 three phase - anyone? But that's hardly the point; the real point is we are learning that for backup and short term use you don't need to switch a unit to single phase to...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

We could take on a paid project to convert the MEP-006a and write a detailed procedure for you or for public posting. Shop rate is $69.95 per hour and it will take 2-3 weeks due to our backlog. Estimated time is 16-24 hours to due to conversion and load test, writing it up is another 8-16 hours...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Converting any of these -004, 005 or 006 is like taking a Semi-truck with an 80,000lb towing capacity and using it as a 1/2 ton pickup truck. An 006 at load is running 7 gallons per hours - you really want to pay $50 an hour to power your house?

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Ok, we (SanghaEnergy.org) did the side by side load test runs (MEP-004 converted to 240 and a 3 phase unit) and shot some video. Unfortunately limitations of the load test equipment left the results some inconclusive. For converted MEP-004 (240 single phase) - we were able to get it to run and...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Ok, let me start by apologizing to sewerzuk for being an ass. Coming across as an ass happens more often than I'd like because of my writing style and never in person. But that is just an excuse for never learning to write English in an way that gets the message across without irritating people...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Ok, I get that my writing style falls far short of producing the desired effect and since I've managed to piss off a few good people I guess I better man up and deliver rather than ramp up the rhetoric. So I'll take that challenge if for no reason to prove myself wrong (based on the arguments to...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

While no one can diminish your SS contribution and resourcefulness I do want you to be slightly more forthright with our audience. Your quote "My conversion process does not reduce the generator's capacity at all" is 100% false - maybe you should the time to explain in more detail. Yes, I know...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Gentlemen, it may be time to remind those interested in single phase conversions that they in fact substantially reducing the generators value and efficiency. Losing 1/3 of the generators output capacity and increasing full usage per load by 1/3. Bottom line - converting a commercial grade...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Couple thoughts and a request for parts: 1. I need an MEP-004 voltage regulator here in CA. Please email if you are parting to have parts machines. 2. I need a speed switch for an MEP-006 - anyone know if the speed switch on the MEP-004, 005 and 006 are the same? I'll be converting my MEP-004...
