I agree. When I was a kid my dad used to take GM 4WD trucks and run them through rivers and crap. Sometime later a wheel bearing or something would fail and it would be all the surprise. The mature attitude is to understand that you can run these things through deep water and they will do...
So yesterday I found a local internet add selling “two LDS-465-1A Continental Engines from Ft Lewis Surplus. Overhauled by the military in the late 1980's and have been stored in sealed metal containers since 1995.” They are complete fan to bellhousing. The seller must move (renter not...
Hello Engineer 1SG,
I'm about 100 pounds less than you, but also sometimes have my seat top and bottom out. I bet the shock is shot, no pun intended. I understand the Monroe 66104 is an exact fit for the original and is about $65. Why did you go through all the trouble for the Polaris shock...
Fuel Filters
Note I have intentionally been running my fuel filters longer than I think they should be, especially considering the alternative fuels I run constantly. I wanted to test to failure and replace them at first sign of trouble. It looks like I found that point.
Yesterday I went for...
I ran up I-5 into WA and up to 67 MPH (per GPS) till I grabbed a fresh deli sandwich (yummy!) and two bags to groceries at Winco. Running the tank very low with a fuel can handy to burn off the last of the veg oil before it gets too cold.
I got sick of the doors sticking on my truck and tried to remove the hinge bolts holding the doors, but they are rust-welded, they will break or need to be torched. I would like to replace them with stainless steel and have a great industrial fastener place close by. I recall someone on here...
That is consistent with my observations and the info on the JA Tonka site. After bypassing the FDC I see up to about 14-15psi boost and EGT's can go much higher if I am not careful. Good luck and enjoy the extra power if you make mods.
Did you have any trouble with Home Depot understanding the paint color you were looking for? I heard that they changed a system or something and could no longer find out how to mix the MIL colors. Or was it a particular person at HD that did not know what they were doing?
I get many of my fasteners at Tacoma Screw also. It's been on my to-do list for a week to go there before work, yet haven't gotten it done yet. I'm in the middle of one of those "100 things" events for my truck.
Hey thanks Tracer,
I was not aware that Monroe 66104 is the seat shock absorber and Monroe 34787 is the front shocks.
Please let us know if you find a difference in ride quality or drive quality. Also, I find my seat will sometimes top out and bottom out on rough bounces. Have seriously...
Sorry, I did not think of the reader when I wrote that. I assumed everyone had been through some training. Ooops! When I took mechanics (chassis semester) we were taught to disconnect one end of a shock or strut and test how much force it takes to move it in each direction. We'd compare new...
When I got my truck it was doing a little cupping on the front tires. I pulled one of the shock mounts and found them to be very difficult to move, so I called them good. I found the toe to be in about 1/16-1/8 if memory serves. I gave it a bit more toe-in and haven't noticed any issue since...
It’s funny you mention that as I did think about it. There’s a difference between cosmetic (old school bumpers, tools, chips easily, thick, bright and shiny) and industrial chrome (binds very well, matt finish, very durable, super corrosion resistance, similar to galvanizing (matte) in...
I installed the brake switch upgrade kit from Erik’s. Glad to have working brake lights again. Hope this switch lasts more than the one that was in the pressure line (a year or two is no good reliability).
Working around the master cylinder and air pack I find that stubby wrenches are a big...
Valence, Good job on that step. I want one!
Aussie, what material is that oil cooler part? You have a good idea about adding a coating. Correct me if I am wrong as I have not taken mine apart, I think that housing is cast aluminum. Solutions of 25% ethylene glycol to 75% water aren't so bad...
I did a brake light check this weekend and found my brake lights out again. About a year ago I replaced the switch as it was bad. Now it looks like the “new” switch is also bad. I’ll double check it this evening, yet I’m fairly sure it is bad as I checked the tail lights themselves. It made...
