Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

The other nice thing about having crane hydraulics set up....it is so easy to simply put a changeover valve into the hydraulic line to power the dump bed instead of the crane....you know....the dump bed kit that you are going to install..... ;-)

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

If it runs as well as it looks you have indeed made a ton of progress! It looks sharp. Can't wait to see it with the crane. I bet, as soon as you have the puppy mounted, the truck will see non-stop service around the property.

One is nosy and waiting for an update from @Danspomer

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

In a commercial truck without an engine brake or a retarder a downhill grade usually has to be driven in the gear one would use to climb said grade. This is to ensure that it is not only the service brakes that stand between you and a smoking wreck at the bottom of the hill. This knowledge was...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

They are simply a result of standardizing the axles so that there is not a different differential chunk, depending on which position the axle is in. All three axles use identical centre differential parts (and that includes the top loader flanges, although they are really only needed on the rear...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

You are missing the fact that, while the air operated dash switch causes the transfer case to disengage the front driveline, the front wheels during regular driving will still turn the front axle shafts, front diff and front driveshaft. This is because the front wheel hubs are permanently...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Yes, you do - albeit a smallish one. About 7 GPM. It looks as if you are having fun with your truck!

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Um...hose runs from air supply to the wiper control valve in the dash and then to the wipers. What you cut after that dash valve doesn't matter, as long as you leave the dash valve closed.

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

That ought to settle the frame debate. It is a long wheelbase version frame from the factory. These came with water purification units and I think also workshop bodies on them. Yours with just a bed (and a crane) must be a speedster, compared to the same truck lugging around a 7000-something...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

@Danspomer Clever move to leverage wifey's stuck car to solicit support for the Deruce! That's an expert, right there! :-) Poor little Crosstrek doesn't have X-mode (and probably smooth tires, too).

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

I think the concept for this truck is right (as evidenced by actual military use of the M36 frame with a short bed and crane). A knuckleboom is one of those things that you don't really know what you would need it for, until you get one. Then you won't be able to figure out how you could live...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

No...but a pic of that data plate might....does it say M35 or M36? The frame has the number stamped into it near the driver side front spring hanger. Does it match the number on the data plate in the cab? If not, the whole cab might have been swapped... Also, was the frame cut and lengthened...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

The Palfinger PK5800 came on the cargo variant of the STEYR-based Heavy Logistics Vehicle, Wheeled (HLVW) of the Canadian Forces and these were assembled in Canada. Wajax (company famous for wildland fire pumps) also assembled the Palfinger cranes. I am not sure whether the PK5800 was used on...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

@cbrTodd I think you are right. I re-looked at the pic of the truck on the trailer and the rearmost bed section does appear shortened. Ok, so the M36 chassis is back in the running as a possibility ;-)

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

When you get around to it, I'd be curious to see pics of how they joined the frames...welded/plated, one hopes. The frame ought to be boxed, too, where the knuckleboom is going to sit. The truck is a winch truck, so it does have a PTO, but does it have a rear facing one as well, to run a...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

I'd say it's a frame stretched M35. Apparently, to accommodate both a full size 14ft bed and the knuckleboom. While I like it, I am wondering why they didn't stretch a 5 ton. The Deuce doesn't have the oomph or weight carrying capacity to really use the bigger bed. Maybe they had a particular...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Let me state the obvious: No Deuce I ever looked at, came with anything useful in the bed, let alone a fri**n knuckleboom crane! No, I am not jealous, it just looks that way. Honest. Your cargo bed is off a 5ton, not a Deuce. The front corners are the giveaway. Your wheel base is wayyyy longer...
