There is 2 more crew cab builds on here by me, do a search. I try to paint most off my trucks to the military camo pattern. I use Gilispe paint that Rapco has, but the spray cans are not much good, they are to thin. They are only good for touch up. I spray hundreds on gallions of there paint...
I paint the black and brown free hand with no stencils and with a small touch up gun. It takes some pratice like anything else. Brown first than the black, keep the pressure low and watch where your overspray is going. If you search around here you will find some other methods of doing it I am sure.
the frame flexes a bunch on these kind of trucks, I have not had any problems with the 4 door like i have, but much longer than that and you would need to design a mounting system that could move, but it could be done, air bags might be an option.
I picked up a couple of front seats out of a 2001 Dodge 2500 with shoulder belts in the seats. I used some 2x3 tubing for spacers off the floor, and got the seats all mocked up ready to bolt in once it gets painted. I will get some pics up this weekend along with some more progress
Here is a couple of more pics of the second crew cab. Its going pretty well, picked up a couple of front Dodge truck seats with shoulder belts so that should save some time. Since I have a large supply on rebuilt front axels, I ordered some parts for a rear steer option just to do something...
The tires on the first on was 15.5-80R20 Michelin XL's, I have some brand new Goodyear 395 MVT's for this one, the same size (46") tall. Here is a couple of pics of the truck and donor cab. I also put a picture of a HIAB 071 knucle boom I picked up last week. Its is all self contained, with a...
I have done that in the past on another truck I built, I even put the pioneer rack on the drivers side. I was pressed for time on the last crew build and just never got to it. It takes time on those little details, but they make the truck. I have plans to do that along with some jerry cans. I...
I have had many 5 tons, and feel it is overkill to me for this purpose, and by law you have to have a cdl to drive a 5 ton, I have a class A cdl, but alot of my buyers don't have cdl's, and don't need to be rolling around in a 20,000lb truck for joy rides. Don't get me wrong a 5 ton has its...
Lets see some pics, I have just pulled in another truck in the shop for a crew cab build. I was thinking of doing an A3, but just couldn't do it. That front end just says  on the A3. Maybey somday I will get used to it. Anyway, Got a nice clean A2. It has a brand new Herclules engine and...
Yes if I remeber right the center of the new axel was about 2" longer then the center of the duals.
As for the 6 door, now you have got me thinking.
I am pulling a donor cab out today for my next build.
I got some pics from the build, but they are hard to see, so here is one. Yes I did have to put a carrier bearing in it, it was like 97" long. It worked very well and was very smooth.
If you look at alot of semi type trucks, they have two little air bags and two small shocks both sitting at an angle to keep the cab in check from side to side. The hood could stay attached and float on the front grill some, but the fenders can't unless you want to bend some sheet metal and...
You must be spying on me!
I was think of putting an air ride mount on the rear of the cab on my next truck, but It would be hard to do since the front fenders and hood are tied to the cab. On semis the front doghouse is seprate from the cab, allowing the cab to float. Still might be able to put...
Well guys, truck just left for Texas a couple of hours ago. The new owner is very happy, he is driving it home. I wanted to drive it some more at least for the summer, but I couldn't pass on the offer. Hopefully I can build another one someday. :-D
That would be a long truck, try to find a M36 as chicklin said, it will save you alot of time and headache, I think the have a 20' bed. But they are harder to come by and cost more. If you don't need the extra length, I would stay away from it. My wheebase is about 1' longer than a stock 6x6. I...
Well I kept track of my hours and my helper hours, it added up to 215 hours. That included pulling the donor cab of and striping it. But it sure didn't count all those 2 am brain farts about how could I do this or, that would look cool. The A/C took about 12 hours to do, the hard top is proably...
