Reverse polarity LED bulbs do work. Base is negative and rim is positive. Received these today. . My new instrument bulbs are below.

A few minutes ago I put in a 28V green sealed round top BA9S LED that I think I bought from Black Dog Customs. It worked.

Using a polarity insensitive BA9S bulb should work.
