    Vegoil destroys engines?

The Elsbett conversion for the 300SD specifies never to use WVO and the rapeseed VO (canola oil) must meet certain standards. Elsbett is a single tank 100% VO system, however, below freezing temps calls for mixing with regular diesel or 100% regular diesel.

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Like I stated in a different post, a cubie (4.6 gallons), now cost $20.00 and some cents for restaurants, that's $4.35/gallon. I paid $13.76 last year, which is $2.99/gallon. There is a difference between oils, restaurant fryer oil is usually soy bean, Canola (rape seed) is supposed to have...

RE: WVO Lloyd, any update on your veggie oil production, if any?

    Vegoil destroys engines?

If the fresh VO (not WVO, which is used/waste) is available at a good price, that's the way to go. I believe some "gas" stations in Europe now sells straight VO, farmers like yourself with their own gas stations. :-) In truth, the biodiesel making process is not that environmentally friendly...

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Lloyd, realistically, there will never be enough for everybody to run 100% VO. A small amount (5-10%) added to the regular diesel is a good thing, it adds lubricity, improves combustion (it contains oxygen) and reduces emissions. WVO is acid and will erode away metal in time. Biodiesel is...

    Vegoil destroys engines?

On a summer time road trip, the fuel in the standard tank gets to about 125°F simply from the warm return flow. If you know that you'll be keeping the fuel warm this way, you can easily run on a 50/50 mix of VO and diesel. It may only be a little harder than normal to start the truck next...

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Yeah Bo, I have been distracted by the 8x8. :-) Of course, it too gets a dual heated fuel tank system. Messing with biodiesel and veggie oil is a hazzle and you need a space to work and free time to do it. It can also be very messy, just read what happened to Chris (steelsoldiers) a couple of...

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Ken, here are some measurements using an electronic pH meter: WVO, un-contaminated from the restaurant fryer: 6.0 (acidic) Un-washed biodiesel: 8.5 (caustic) Washed biodiesel: 7.0 (neutral) I use a mix of unwashed biodiesel and WVO, so the pH may be close to neutral, don't know, haven't...

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Re: RE: Vegoil destroys engines? The veggie oil is slightly acid and that is another reason to have a dual tank system, so that the filters, pump etc can be flushed with regular diesel before shut-down. I'm definetely a two tank man. :-)

    Vegoil destroys engines?

Interseting, but some of the statements may not be accurate for heated veggie oil. Good start for a research project. Usually, veggie oil will reduce exhaust emissions and it also adds lubricity to the fuel.
