My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Good work Chris, personally, I don't like working in this kind of weather unless necessary, I give you credit for that. Removed a few more parts from the parts M925 the other day and had to use gloves to keep my hands warm, no fun. Check your original bumper for markings before scrapping it.

Bruce, do you have a part number for that in-line filter, I'd like to compare spec?

Hey Chris, that filter looks like a mistake, hard to believe that it was installed in a production vehicle...also, it should be a water separator. If you have the space, go for the Racor type used on the Hemtt trucks, should be surplus units around for about $35 that only need a cleanup and new...

Chris, is this the ball joint that Chad custom made for you? It's on the linkage plate seen from the front in 2nd image. If you can use it, provide a mailing address and its yours.

Chris and Chad, I can imagine your smiling faces driving down that dirt road, once driven by the cranetruck also. Shouldn't be much traffic to worry about on those nearby paved roads either, for that matter. Nice going!

Took some pictures of the parts truck this morning, guess there isn't much you can use. About the numbering of the air lines, from the looks of it, they are color coded plastic lines without numbers... This a plain m925 WW, no "A1" or A2".

Chris, which parts do you need? I may be able to get some of it from the parts truck in Mt Airy...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Chris, I notice some tags on the lines in this and other pictures, are the separate air systems labeled by numbers like the electrical wiring is? They did that on my 8x8 and was wondering if by chance the numbering was standardized. The TMs don't help here, at least not the ones I have.

You may want to add some variations to the spelling (treadle) in the description to make it easier to find.... Just curious, does it have a patent number on it?

Oh boy, looks like your project is growing each time you work on it... The cab on the m925 in Mt airy is in much better condition IIRC, problem would be transportation... Those images really make me appreciate the aluminum cab on the 757.

How do you keep it covered when you are not working on it? Thinking about the downpour we are having at the moment. :-) Why not rent a small portable compressor for the day?

Nothing like taking something apart and putting it back together for gaining confidence in the system. I have been following Duncan's Tatra restoration project and he just finished doing this to his brake valve. The Tatra 813 system is closer to my 757 brake system, but with added safety...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

You keep mentioning how this truck was used near the ocean, have you seen any other (other than the relay valves) evidence of "internal" corrosion? The compressor must have sucked a lot of salt laden air in that environment. Is your parts truck free of this kind of corrosion? I'm looking at an...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Sounds like me, Chris, except twenty years ago, I'd be building a log home or putting together some oddball electronic device at all hours.....now I'm a fair weather man, only working on my MV toys when it's nice and warm out and they are parked just yards away from the front door.....of the...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

I'll say it again, a heck of a project Chris! I have been meaning to get pictures of the parts M925 down in Mt Airy, but then again, you don't appear to have much trouble finding what you need. The truck in Mt Airy is in pieces, with that big engine on the ground, PTO sitting on top of the...

:-) You learn a lot when you can't get a new one. Been there, done that sort a thing...again and again. I suspect that even the parts truck would have questionable replacements.

Don't run the truck enough to notice anything yet. The system has a factory installed alcohol evaporator, so there is always a trace of moisture/alcohol in the air tanks since I have the jar filled to some extent at all times. The CTIS on your truck may be more sensitive to dirty air then...

This is the 1969 version of the separator (NSN 2530-859-7279). The treated air is used for pressurization of cab/engine components and brake drums.

For future reference, I was running mine in "LO" the other day and the air temp at the discharge end of the heater was 272°F on my digital thermometer. Neoprene ducting is rated 300 degrees, while the Silicone rubber duct is good for 600. Haven't measured the "HI" temp, but it's gonna be higher...

My BIG M925A2 Project Truck Is Home

Fun stuff Chris! Is that actually an air dryer or is it a water trap? I have a similar device in one of my air lines, but it's designed to trap water and has a drain. The ducting, visible in this same image comes from the fuel burning heater, I presume and I'm wondering about the temp rating. It...
