    Where's Cranetruck?

Dave, The 8x8 had its problems towing, first off it's heavy (16,000 lb plus), and the front wheels didn't follow through in the turns, so it was literally dragged through the turns, which required low 1st gear to move after a stop sign with a right or left sharp turn following. We suspended the...

    Where's Cranetruck?

Haven't had a chance to look at everything yet. This truck has a lot of interesting features, waterproof brakedrums, pressurized axle housings etc...Don't know Clinto, lots of exploring to be done.

    Where's Cranetruck?

Thanks! Very much enjoyed meeting you all. Will, the engine is the LDS-465-2, 478 ci, 200 hp made by Continental. The delivery date was 1969. The truck was driven to the site where I picked it up, so shouldn't be too difficult to get it up and running again. Except for a few tires, 16-20...

Here are more images. The "Virginia bound" image was taken about an hour prior to the tire blow-out. Put the rig on the "Cat scale" and the total weight was about 37,000 lb.

    Where's Cranetruck?

Arrived home at 1800 hrs today. Not without last minute happenings, of course, a tire blew out on the 8x8 in tow. It was the second tire on the driver's side. Eastbound at MM22 on I-81 in Virginia I heard a "thud" over the engine noise and my earplugs, I was doing about 45 mph and was thinking...

    Where's Cranetruck?

Ryan, this truck does not have a "service" coupling. We experimented with a number of connections until we found a connection that gave us some braking power while rocking the truck back and forse. A glad hand was plumped in. It now brakes pretty good considering. Also, no trailer connections...

    Where's Cranetruck?

Left the "compound" this morning. Spending the night in Russelville Arkansas. The test run yesterday with the M757 was off road with plenty of mounds and dips. The towed well untill I hit a particularily large mound. The tow bar snapped in two...The main reason was due to the fact that the...

The computer here at Charley's is dial-up only and there may be some automatic resizing. Anyway here are a couple more.

    Where's Cranetruck?

Here are some images from my visit here in Oklahoma. Having some problems with resolution, so if Mike can help resize the pictures that would be ok. We hooked up Jason's towbar today and got lights and brakes working. Hoping to leave tomorrow after a test drive.

    Where's Cranetruck?

Wow! You guys are the best! I have been here in Oklahoma for almost a week now, working the old cranetruck to death. Lots of little jobs on a site being cleared of all MV's. I'm staying with Charley Bell and his wife while we prepare the XM757 for the trip to Virginia. Got the homemade bed and...
