    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

How about just an entire long block assembly? But if it were me I would find a set of used heads. Just get them checked for acceptable cracks. Some cracks are normal. Most all have minor cracks in the pre chambers. That area is replaceable. Have you had them checked at a reputable automotive...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

That is exactly why I leave certain work to qualified professionals. I can do the hard grunt work all day. I can fix things others throw away and build things other are envious of. But when it comes to transmissions, Transfer cases, starters, alternators, differentials, and injection pumps. I...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

The water temperature sensor is in the left drivers side head up front. Make sure you do NOT have a glow plug wire hooked to the temperature sensor. I seen this before. The wires are both green. In stock you can not hook up the glow plug wire to the sensor but when you cut the stock 3/16" spades...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I have used Diesel Care out of Memphis for the past 20 years. No negative results. A few people bought CUCV's from me and are driving around in them with the Diesel Care pumps. No complaints that I heard of yet. And if you have to sue someone over a set of delivery nozzles you need a life...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

You need to make sure of a few things. Do you have good vacuum? Are the rubber hoses sealing on the module at the injection pump? Is the module adjusted properly? And is the signal reaching the modulator thru the vacuum. get it set up properly and change the filter and fluid. It could be hanging...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I say no to doing more harm then good. Change the fluid and filter. The shift could just be the modulator on the right side of the transmission. And that cost me $40. at a local shop to have diagnosed and changed. I trust this guy. I had one of my M1009's shifting horrible and dropped it off...

We drained and replaced the fluid and filter back about 5 years ago. That my friend is quite the long service interval. I doubt that is helping matters. I would still change it and service the filter. I try and change mine and service the filter every 2 years regardless of mileage. Good Luck...

13 G is what came from the factory. I have the GM part number if you want it. The 13 g is a 3/16" tab. The others have a 1/4" tab. My choice is to retain the 13 G I also retain the ballast resistors on the firewall. I don't have a problem if you don't. But if you want the GM PN for the AcC Delco...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I just clamp the thread shaft in the negative dip the tip in grease or oil. I touch the tab for a split second and they get hot enough to smoke. If NO smoke no good. That easy. I replace glow plugs as they go bad. I like guys that want all 8 changed. As long as they give me the old ones I am...

Very nice engine. I like the Gen 2 attachments. Very nice. That is not an original CUCV engine. That is a newer replacement engine. But that is fine. Nice back ground scenery.

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I do things the hard way in some peoples eye. I pull all 8 glow plugs and check them with a battery charger on the work bench. That's me. I had good ones check bad and bad ones check good. I get an eyeball on them this way. I had them getting hot 1/2 way up the shaft. They are supposed to get...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

That could be one glow plug that is not heating. A I stated before. When you bypass the resistors the glow plugs do not cycle as designed. When I start my truck cold the glow plugs cycle on and off till the proper temperature is reached. it serves as a cleaner burn, smoother cold idle and thus...

Did you vacuum check your seal on the fuel filter base? It must be completely sealed or air will seep in and allow it to drop prime. The broken terminal will not cause the shut down on cold starts. Good Luck. Did you drive it far? And how bad is the white smoke?

I would hope it is coolant that was trapped in the muffler. How does the idle seem? Is it smooth? report back.

I would like to see the fuel pump. I think you may have the wrong fuel pump. I have had this in the past.On the left is the incorrect fuel pump. It fits in the hole and the lever does move back and forth. But note the difference in the lever. The pump on the right the pumping action takes place...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

If you can make the intake work you can make that simple plate. You could weld the correct fitting to another flat plate with a hole in it. And it could be made to look professional. Probably a lot less the $30. I paid. i was going to have a few made but was shot down with an Ebay sale of them...

Discontinued at this point. GM PN 14028949. I did have one made at a machine shop it cost me $30. but I needed it for a customers truck. I think Mean Green M1009 has that part on it. You could T off the drivers side idiot sending unit and do it that way. It is just pipe fittings.

The passengers side of the rear of the head has an open port that is plated off. You could use that if you have another threaded plate like the left side rear port has. If you still want the idiot light to work you could move the current idiot light sending unit to the crossover manifold and...

Yes it will fit. It is NOT the most accurate place to check coolant temperature. But many people do it.
