CUCV Heaven, My build of a 1009 and 1008

Just use lock nuts the crimped type. I took them off many times they are not as easy as a few bolts. Where would it sit to allow time to remove it?

I think it fell off. That would take great effort to get up there and hold the nuts while untightening the bolts. As I recall they came OEM with 5/16" fine thread bolts with a star washer. Not to start controversy but a friend of mine lost a license plate off the front of his truck and assumed...

The metal gaskets always worked for me. I would change them every time I had to remove the axle. Once and done.

I just find it hard to believe that an electric heating element stuck in the freeze out hole is going to warm a cast iron block filled with fluid in the short time that hey mention on the current online information. I tend to believe a through heating of the block and all the coolant would take...

Back in the day I recall the GM diesel owner's manual supplement stating 8 hours minimum. However, I found this information on the internet so it must be true. Regardless of the wattage, about 75 minutes appears to be about the time the temperature rise starts leveling off, give or take 15...

I bought the M1102 for the legal towing weight of the manufacturer. I wanted the 4200 GVW. That is also what the generator trailers are rated at. That little nomenclature tag was worth the legal part of it. I would not want to find out after the fact that I was involved in an accident with a...

On the inner fender aprons. The import ones work fine for many years. One thing. You can't just take a new import and install it. They are coated in wash primer and that has zero corrosion resistance. I have scuffed and primed them. I have scuffed and painted them. The best method I have...

I probably have a new import drivers side in stock. I can look. I have genuine GM ones but they are not cheap.

Comfortable ride with a CUCV. Yea I had a few. I was using my 2019 Silverado and tow barring CUCV's behind me. That was comfortable CUCV experience. CUCV's and comfort are oxymoron. Now CUCV and hard use and reliability are true statements. Happy Holidays.

I have fixed that issue in the past. I used a hole saw and cut into the inside of B pillar where the nut is located and held the nut in place and then just put a plastic cap plug in place to fill the hole. Never noticed it. Good Luck. You can weld it good and strong and adjust it where it needs...

That's the door latch. The hinge bushings and pins must be really bad. Or the door is that poorly adjusted. I would replace the strikers and get a door latch from a donor door. Properly adjusted they do open and close like a newer truck. Good Luck.

I must live in God's country because everywhere I go locally and buy parts I have developed a great relationship with the sales people. I can walk in and ask for a size belt that is a 1/2" shorter ten the one I carry in. They give me one and I walk out and come back in and say how about another...

The belt thing is easy. I met you so I know you can handle this without any tears. Take the truck to the parts store. Drive it with the screaming, whining belts that you have. Take all the tools you need to change the belts and a socket to fit the center nut on the alternators. walk in a out of...

I don't like that standard bolt in the block. That hole is METRIC M8 1.25 I told you that. Don't try that 5/16" grade 5. I see 3 hash marks for grade 5. Thread chase that hole really good and make sure some other Knucklehead don't have the threads nuts up with standard bolt. Good Luck.

Just a little tip. Make sure your fit and adjust the door before welding all that together. With that much steel removed from the main body structure that door way can change shape and the entire body tub can sag. Fit the door and correct as needed before welding everything up. That is even to...

I have one on the shelf in my barn. Save some coin and stop up and I am flexible. It is the direct drive model. But I also have many new 28MT and alternators. More then I need anymore.
