Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

Just an update for now. I have driven the winch deuce in several parades since the head change. (I do not have any other use for it) Driven several hundred miles. On the first run I opened the oil fill cap and looked at it. Some trace indicators of anti-freeze on the cap. I figured it was...

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

By the way, for anyone trying to figure out where the water is coming from, remove the injectors one by one while turning the engine over. My engine had a number three cylinder gasket blown. Replaced the gaskets. Moved the front head to the rear. Started motor and blew the number six...

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

Keep everyone posted on this. No one knows what goes wrong on these engines. The military just pulled them out and replaced them. The rebuild facility just rebuilt them without telling the operators what was wrong. We learn here from experience. I pulled my heads three times before finally...

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

Mine turned out to be a cracked head. In the valve pockets behind the valve. A new head from TNJ Murray solved the problem. None since.

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I have the milkshake. But, I also had the cooler leak probably long before I got the truck. I got the cooler leak fixed. Now, to see if that makes a difference. If not, I will start pulling the engine down. I have a full gasket kit, so that is in place if needed.

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I drove my M35 for about three months knowing I had AF in the oil. I fixed the problem, I think, and finally changed the oil just now. It had a small amount of AF in it. But, the radiator had pressure. I believe the AF was residue. I will know when I change the oil again in June.

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

When I drained the antifreeze there was no sign of oil in it. Guess I am lucky?

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I retrieved the old oil cooler from the junk pile and will test it this weekend for a leak. After the removal and replacement, I kind of think the fault probably was in the o-rings. But, I am curious and will try the hot water idea out just for fun.:D

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I had thought about pressure testing the oil cooler. But, how? It probably is quite simple and I am quite dumb.

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

Changed out the oil cooler. Simple task. Drain the antifreeze, no oil in it, move the secondary fuel filters out of the way, three nuts to remove, and disconnect the last three injectors lines at the cylinder head and bend the lines just enough for clearance. Took an hour or so. There are...

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I am starting with the oil cooler. A new one from Memphis is on the way. I will order a gasket set from TNJ Murray if that does not cure the problem. We had a similar problem last year on a M113 and the oil radiator was cracked. That required removing the engine and a complete dismantle...

Uh, oh! Anti-freeze In the Oil

I changed the oil today. It appeared some anti freeze is in the oil. The radiator also seems pressurized without it having been started in a couple of weeks. Not a lot of pressure just some. Head gasket?
