I sold a 002 to a neighbor and it has a hard time starting his 3 ton heat pump. He has an all electric house and has to run basics only if he wants the heat pump or ac. Maybe candidate for a hard start kit. :-) To me, the generator is only for basics during a power outage. I am not...

Check out the link below. Gives a lot of information better than I can explain it. Also, Google "a/c hard start kit". I used them on 20, 30, and 40 amp service for heat pumps and a/c units. My 002 will start my 2 1/2 ton a/c with anything else on but the hot water heater or clothes...
ETN550-There is a hard start kit available for HP and AC units. Made for low line voltage/hard start units. Most Electrical and Refrigeration/AC supply houses have them in stock. They use a capacitor for an extra kick on start. Over the years, I have installed dozens of them.
