    I found a jug of their oil in my garage when I moved in. So far I've used it far bar oil on the chain saw, and thats about it.

    I wouldn't say its a myth, but its been fixed. When synthetics were first introduced they found that they didn't keep rubber seals swelled up the way conventional oil did. The seals would appear to "dry out" and could introduce leaks. They corrected that with some additives.

    The previous owner of my truck was very proud of the fact that he did zero maintenance in 8 years of ownership. I don't think he even changed the oil. *facepalm*
