    Check valve for oil filters?

Bjorn I will have the bypass kits w/ fittings as your showing above when I am up and running for sales..

    Check valve for oil filters?

John.. I would be intrested in seeing oil sampling done with the spin on's maybe a before and after deal to see how the filters are working.. Also the adapters your speaking of were made for them by Wix filter... I found that in my research on the remote bases.

    Check valve for oil filters?

Speaking of... What in Sams snot were you doing outside playing with your truck in 30 degree weather???? I will not go outside for free money below 50!!!! If ya can run it around 70 degrees I can get something more comparable and I don't have to worry about FL frost bite! lol

    Check valve for oil filters?

Bjorn, Can you explane the methodology you used for the testing? I would like to run the same on mine, if we do them identically it would give a base line for comparison on at least 2 trucks and maybe someone else could join in? Patrick??? The more numbers to compare the better.

    Check valve for oil filters?

Speaking of devils advocate... In looking at the flow / psi drop specs on those valves I don't know if it would be a good idea. 15-20 psi is a lot in the over all scheme of things...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Bypass filter bases have a flow restriction in them, they allow oil in usually through a 1/2NPT or larger fitting and the exit fitting is the same size but have a 1/8th" hole in the base for oil exit (this is usually located in the stud the filter screws on to)... This hole slows the oil down...

    Check valve for oil filters?

When you call Wix or whom ever you really have to be careful of what they tell you... Yes a base they have listed on their computer will screw many filters on to it... but the computer doesn't tell them that all of the bases have a oring grove cut into them and that the thread depth is not cut...

    Check valve for oil filters?

That might throw your oil psi off as you would have something closer to free flow near the sending unit... just a thought.

    Check valve for oil filters?

Ok... a stab at this in the long winded version for everyone reguardless of technical level. The term micron is purely suggestive... It is used to describe the size of the element inside of a filter but it does not in any way, shape or form mean that said element will filter at that rating...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Teflon is ok ... There are two types of tape, the white which is more common is technically for water applications but will "work", the yellow is for oil, hyd applications and is just thicker / heaver.... Bjorn can prolly whip out a photo of the two. I prefer a thread sealer in oil and hyd...

    Check valve for oil filters?

I think it would blow oil into the journals and such fine from there but I think you would still have a long delay in getting oil pressure as the filters are what take so much time to fill up. In the process you would also get a rush of air in the system from the filter area blowing out whatever...

    Check valve for oil filters?

The bases I used in my trucks thread were modified bypass bases. The exit hole in the base is only 1/8 from the filter, hence it being a bypass base. The thread connections are 1/2 npt inlet and outlet. Base is Napa PN 4750 The suggested filter is 1749 These are designed to be used as a...

    Check valve for oil filters?

A few problems... In dealing with filters large enough for the LD's volume there are no "internal bypass" filters made by anyone in those sizes. This leaves your filters to take a fairly high psi which would split the canisters open. Two of the systems bypass valves are located in the...

    Check valve for oil filters?

I think had and lost that diagram your referring to some time ago and have been looking for it ever since... It was in a post somewhere a LONG time ago... If ya get the chance I would very much appreciate getting a copy. I couldn't remember the exact psi on those but I knew it was much lower...

    Check valve for oil filters?

*sigh*.... I generally avoid addressing people directly when I have a difference in opinion. As simple human nature it makes people defensive and is generally seen as provocative. On the other hand this is the second time you've told me to go study something... Pick up the phone... call Herc...

    Check valve for oil filters?

You don't have to modify the valves... Its a matter of having filters with the correct flow parameters. You can interchange from 50M to 5M with no pressure problems provided you have the correct flow designed into the system... As I said before... it just leads to a larger filter to handle the...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Vice versa... It would take longer to get up to temp... Seeing the oil housing assembly off of the engine did me little good other than getting to see the flow and over all operation. The hard part to a LD is finding the numbers to the oil system so that you are working with the correct flow...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Some how I lost track of this thread... That is all there is available... Cartridge style filters in a lube setting are like the ugly step child of filters as they are early 1900's technology and made out of lesser quality elements which was what they were specified for in design. BW and I...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Yeah the whole assy unbolts right off of the side... Acts as part of the lifter covers... You would have to hunt down some civilian parts to remove it and or make some adapters up plus you loose your oil cooler in the process. It also houses one or two of the relief valves for the system so you...

    Check valve for oil filters?

RE: Re: RE: Check valve for oil filters? Ok here is my $5 soap box speech on what I have learned while researching my oil filter change out... and what finally drove the mod to be a necessity rather than a luxury for oil changes. Sorry its so long but its a lot of information... Dry start is...
